Re: Craft center project build
Note to self:
Next time you decide to put trimmable led lights into recessed strips, measure the distance between the points where the strips can be cut. Turns out, there are locations about every 20" that cannot be cut. The majority of the cut lines are every 4". Every 5th one cannot be cut. Kinda f'd up my plan a little with the last row. I'm either going to have to buy an entire new set of these lights and cut a small section off, or find a short section that I can buy at Lowe's or Amazon. I might just buy a 16' set and cut off what I need, then use the remainder for something else.

Pretty sure everyone made that mistake the first time using those led strips. That's what I told myself anyway.
Looks great!

At least I have another 9' of the tape lights to use elsewhere. Most likely will go in the lower part of the cabinet.

Re: Craft center project build
Now to start cutting out some shelves. This thing is going to have soooooooo many shelves! I shudder the thought of that many cuts.

Re: Craft center project build
Need to pick up a couple more sheets of plywood for the shelves. Used the one sheet of 1/2" today and got about 16-18 pieces from it. I figure, I need at least 30 more shelves. This thing has shelves for days.

Re: Craft center project build
A quick count of the store bought version looks to have about 40 of the large shelves and 24 of the narrow shelves. I have 26 large shelves made and about 18 of the narrow shelves made at this point. 2 sheets should cover what I have left to cut out.

Re: Craft center project build
A couple of Mrs. Gunsmokin's stamp club ladies are coveting the cabinet, as well. They have me asked how much to build one for them. They don't get how much work this project involves. I have lost track of how many hours I have in it. It's easily over a hundred. Probably in the $7-800 range for materials. If I was to make another one and just sell it for time and materials, it would be over $3k. I'm not inclined to do another one. Not even a little bit.rustynuts wrote:Jennifer has been drooling over this project since you started it Tim.

That's pretty much what I told her, but my estimate was a little low at $2500. Her reply was, "Well? You have tools, right?"Gunsmokin wrote:A couple of Mrs. Gunsmokin's stamp club ladies are coveting the cabinet, as well. They have me asked how much to build one for them. I think she was at least half joking.

Just for kicks, check with the 2 cabinet shops here in town and see what their price would berustynuts wrote:Jennifer has been drooling over this project since you started it Tim.

I don't even want to know. Probably twice what Tim would ask.PDM wrote:Just for kicks, check with the 2 cabinet shops here in town and see what their price would berustynuts wrote:Jennifer has been drooling over this project since you started it Tim.

Re: Craft center project build
A place like a cabinet shop that is set up for production would probably be more affordable. At least, it wouldn't surprise me if it were.PDM wrote:Just for kicks, check with the 2 cabinet shops here in town and see what their price would berustynuts wrote:Jennifer has been drooling over this project since you started it Tim.
