Seen more deer in one day than I've ever seen before. I let a bunch walk, mostly 2 years or younger. I had one huge buck stay in the brush and then walked over the hill and 5 minutes later I hear "BAM!"
Well, I figured the next big body buck to come through would be mine. Finally at 1pm, right when I finished my frozen PB&J, this guy walks literally 25 feet in front of my blind and doesn't slow down. Luckily I got a heart shot on the run. He was like a fire-hose squirting blood out like 6 feet!!!!
Dropped dead after 15 yards.
Congrats. Nice looking buck.
I heard one shot around 7:30.
When I saw him I went ahead & took the shot. Figured the shot I heard was the 11 pointer so I wasn’t going to pass this one. May not of gotten another chance for a decent buck. Hit the top of the heart & lungs. Every few feet I would see another good, large spray. Only made it 25 - 30 yards. Kicked my ass getting him out of the woods by myself. Love the 6.5 creedmoor.

Oh yea, just an FYI for those that hunt solo.
Every year I'll pick up one of the long wooden pallets, usually from Lowe's before they toss them.
I use that as a ladder/ramp to pull my deer up into the back of my truck.
I'm old now and just can't sling these deer like I used to.

I use a jet sled to get them out of the woods & a piece of plywood I got from work as a ramp & just slide it into the truck. Works for me.

I learned years ago that if you're hunting for meat, don't let a decent buck go while you wait on that trophy buck that you seen previously.
I wanted the old huge ten point that I've seen on my trail cam this year but I'm happy with what I got.
You're deer will make some great steaks too!

I’ve never understood the need to only hunt bucks. I have a buddy that won’t hunt a doe ever. If I’m hunting anything (I’ve never been deer hunting)it’s to put meat in the freezer. Trophies aren’t important to me.

Does already in the freezer.
Probably get another one this week.
They are more plentiful and easier to tag.

I hunt to fill the freezer but I’m not going to pass up a nice buck. I did let some does pass opening morning because I didn’t like the shot I would have had to take. Buck came thru & gave me a good open broadside shot so I took him. Plan on going out for a doe to ad to the freezer since I took a week off work. Last 4 years all I killed was anterless deer. They taste better. Killing a buck was just a bonus this year.

Best tasting deer would fit in a carry-on bag, but I don't think anyone goes out just to hunt tiny deer.

Went out this morning. No one else in the woods to get them moving I guess. Started getting gusty wind so I left. Will be back out Saturday too.

That’s why I bought the jet sled I’ve been using. Throw the deer in it & it slides over everything & seldomly gets hung up. Takes about 1/3 the effort than dragging one does.
