Hikers
Looking for recommendations on a new pair of hiking boots. I’d like them to be non-safety toed, lightweight, waterproof, and they have to be available in extra wide.
I’d prefer them to be American made as well but that’s not a dealbreaker. What’s on your paws for trails and such?

KEENS! This pair is almost 2 years old and I wear them almost everyday. They have a L & R “D” shaped toe box.

Re: Hikers
Merrells feel best on my EXTREMELY flat feet, but I'm 50% luck exactly on them. I've had 6 pair and 3 have been fantastic and 3 had major issues near immediately. Their customer service has been great though.
I've had 1 pair of Salomon hiking shoes and 1 pair of boots, both felt great sitting or standing up a very short time but KILLED!!! my feet after a few minutes.
My next try was going to be Keens, but will probably be a while, at least hopefully...
I've had 1 pair of Redwing (back when they seemed to be made better) hiking style boot when I was a RR conductor for CSX and they were nice to work in walking 5-15 miles a day on RR ballast. They tore up pretty quick, but ballast kills most boots.

My Merrell’s have been great but I’ve had several recommendations for Solomons. Haven’t done more than try a pair on at this pointiron369 wrote:Why?ssracer wrote:I like my keens, but my next pair will be Solomon

I spent almost 10 years doing RR construction.Niceguy wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 10:03 pmMerrells feel best on my EXTREMELY flat feet, but I'm 50% luck exactly on them. I've had 6 pair and 3 have been fantastic and 3 had major issues near immediately. Their customer service has been great though.

I prolly went thru ten pairs of boots in that time because of the ballast you have to walk on all the time.
Don't miss any of that work, at all.

Re: Hikers
Be sure to check out Zappo's at the Mall St. Matthew's.
When people order shoes online, they will order 2 or 3 different sizes and return the ones that won't fit.
My $200 Keen's were $50, I believe, and were still new with tags.
They carry every brand but it's the luck of the draw on what's in stock.

Re: Hikers
Know your european size, the sizes run more true. I’m a 43, most of time I just grab 43 and they fit.

Re: Hikers
I’m not sure there are any hiking boots made in America any more. Go on www.Sierra.com and see if there are any good brands in your size on sale.

Hard to even find good work boots made in the USA when you start factoring in steel toe, waterproof, etc.Elkins45 wrote:I’m not sure there are any hiking boots made in America any more. Go on www.Sierra.com and see if there are any good brands in your size on sale.
