Was watching this today and I thought about you losing your drone.plumber_bob wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 8:28 amWell that was the shortest hobby I've ever had!
Got it set up in the backyard and it took off towards Ft Knox like a scalded dog, never to be seen again!!!
DAMMIT!!

Re: Drone hobbyists
FedEx delivered my mavic air2 today. Bought it as a refurb from DJI so it needed updates as soon as I got the controller and batteries charged.
First drone flight was mostly a success. Tested the front and rear obstacle avoidance and they work great. I set the maximum height as low as it would go and flew it around in the fence in the back yard. I learned that it doesn’t have side obstacle avoidance when I crashed it into the fence. No damage but it got some dirt on one prop when it “landed”. I raised the maximum height to 150’ and flew it to a couple of the lakes in the neighborhood and then got a feeling like I was encroaching on others privacy. I actually didn’t see anybody or take pictures other than of my house. I guess because I don’t want someone flying over my house I’m not going to fly it here anymore.

Re: Drone hobbyists
Took it out again today at my property. Much less dense population wise. Used all three batteries flew about an hour and fifteen minutes total. Felt like I was getting better with the controls had a good feel for it then I got cocky. I imagine this is the second worst view you can have from your drone. I couldn’t physically see it in the limbs but I hit the find my drone alert and knew basically where it was in the tree. It only took 127 Winchester super x hollow points to shoot down four large branches to get it to fall. Drone came out no worse for wear. When I retrieved it I had a gimbal overload warning on the screen. I let it cool down and put a fresh battery in and had no problems after wards.

Re: Drone hobbyists
Mine got a low battery warning while it was flying. I got an alert with a prompt. I tapped the screen and it came back and landed inches from where it took off.plumber_bob wrote: ↑Sat Jun 12, 2021 6:21 pmI want that, Get the fuck back home, feature when shit ain't right!

It’s important. I ran mine out too far and it automatically came back when the battery was too low.plumber_bob wrote:I want that too.

Re: Drone hobbyists
I went to work and should have left early enough to get some good sunset pictures around the falls of the Ohio. I didn’t make it before I got called back in. I gotta go till up my wife’s community garden plot in the morning and I’m going to try to get some River sunrise pictures.

Re: Drone hobbyists
I went to West Point to take some pictures. I don’t advise it. Birds were trying to attack my drone. A couple fishermen said they do that any time someone tries to fly a drone down there.

Mitsubishi stacker reclaimer. One of only two ever built and the last one still in operation. Affectionately known as the “wilderbeast”.
