Safety Sally here: The fill and safety valve WILL GO BAD after repeated use (remember this was intended to be a one use item), so be sure and leak check!! I've had some that last for a dozen plus refills and a couple that refuse to re-seat once.

I bought some brass caps for my refilled cylinders because I tend to do them in batches and they set in the garage for a while before I use them. The caps not only keep the valve clean but they also seal up a valve leak so you just lose a tiny bit between the time you remove the cap any you attach it to your appliance.
The bigger the temperature difference between the bottle the better the fill, so while you put your bottles in the freezer you should also let your donor tank warm up as much as possible. You still can’t get a full 16 ounce fill but it gets close enough for me because I’ll just do another bottle.
If you really want to transport a refilled cylinder across state lines you can do so legally as long as you use this one: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Flame-King- ... /305539511
