WTB: Ceremony drill M1903 Springfield rifle
So the youngest boy is doing Expedition drills with his ROTC troop. I thought it would be nice to get him his own drill rifle to practice with instead of having to beg to borrow one from school. I'm looking for a M1903 Springfield drill rifle. This is one area I have no idea, as are the ones they use demilled or just a replica? I imagine it can be either?? Let me know if you have one sitting in a closet or know where they are available. Thank you.

My nephew did that in Navy JROTC a year or two ago. My sister bought him the replica one since thats the one his team used. Supposed to be the same balance and weight. Those replicas they use must be pretty close to the real thing, when they were last up here he showed me his moves with my real 1903A3 i bought from Kokopelli. (favorite rifle, by the way LOL)
If you want, i can find out where she bought it.

Yes please, I have found replica rifles, but the weight is only a pound or two. Guess they are only made for display?Vividia wrote:My nephew did that in Navy JROTC a year or two ago. I did JROTC in high school- at Bullitt Central. (We won everything state, regional and nationally, by the way)
We had the 'real' 1903's that had the plugged barrels. Try to find one of those- the lightweight replicas are for the band drill team girls.

Sister says she remembers drillamerica replica on paradestore.com. and Daisy made the other one. The one she got for her son is 8.5 pounds. The DrillAmerica one is the one you want. Not cheap, $215 or more depending on finish choices. As i recall, it was pretty nice.

I can answer this question definitively.
The current official Army JROTC drill rifle is the replica made by Daisy.
With that said, some exhibition drill teams *may* use other models. If you would like to ensure you get the exact rifle his unit uses send me a PM and I can find out for you.
