DDgunslinger wrote:Thanks to everyone who made it out this weekend, it was a great couple days of training. Hope everyone learned something new and had a good time. We look forward to having you all back out for the lvl 3 Tactical Rifle course in June.
Was a great class. Got my butt kicked, but had a great time. I'll do another one and the level III as well. All that steel really did make the course more fun, you know for sure if you hit or not. Of course when you have to get two hits on one before you can move out...there ain't no hiding a fail!
I brought some new stuff, gear and weapon-wise, to put through it's paces and try out. Much better test than just a plinking test at the range. Was a great test and I learned a lot about what I have and what I want for next time. The biggest surprise for me was my 1911 AO lower with the Ciener 22LR conversion... I brought it to try it out for a few runs, not expecting much. Not counting the PAIN IN THE ASS it was to put back together during the stress shoot, it ran GREAT. One little hiccup on the first run, but not another misfire the entire first day - and we shot a lot of pistol ammo (I was using the Remington bulk pack cheap stuff). Went to the XDm 9mm on day 2 since there were multiple stress shoots.
Highly recommended training. You will know your limitations and your gears limitations by the end of day 2 for certain.

Re: April 21st – 22nd Tactical Rifle lvl 2
During one entire run the cover I needed dictated that nearly every shot I took to be left handed. Since I am right handed, I was painfully inadequate at this with the pressure of the course.
I learned a lot about what I need to work on as well as what gear to procure. Need over want.

I think I will still not vote... at least until I see the videono you can vote you are a member of team not bald.

I was surprised how quickly I could make shooting left handed feel natural enough to me. The shoulder transitions and such while at home probably helped with that.

Re: April 21st – 22nd Tactical Rifle lvl 2
Agreed. Dry fire practice needed. Mag changes were awkward, forcing my left eye on the red dot was awkward, reaching for the charging handle with my right hand was awkward. Sling was never and issue, that was about the only plus. I was, however, hitting steel once I took and breath and put rounds on target, so I think just getting some practice off the range for repetitive stuff will do the trick.Whootsinator wrote:ChopperDoc wrote:During one entire run the cover I needed dictated that nearly every shot I took to be left handed. I managed, it just felt weird.

Had you ever tried any left-handed/left-shouldered stuff?

Mostly do that for pistol.
Level 1 from RWI was the most non-bench style shooting I have done with an AR (any carbine) before now. Military was all pistol after Basic Training.

Understood. Ten minutes of manipulations here and there will add up and you'll start feeling much more comfortable. You can put yourself in plenty of strange/uncomfortable areas in your house to see how you would shoot from there, too.
