who sells computers the cheapest? I need a new laptop...

Our desktop died over a year ago, it's mothballed.
I have an ancient Compaq Presario I bought when I went back to school, probably 6 years ago or so.
I've replaced the hinges on it twice, just did it a couple weeks ago- now the screen is going out. It was already running out of memory to where I couldn't download programs...
I though about 'upgrading' it, but I don't know if it's worth it- the battery is a new extended battery, but it still doesn't last for more than an hour and a half.

Soooooo...If I'm laptop shopping- where do I go?

What programs you running? Do you need a large screen or can it be small and portable? If its just microsoft office programs and cost is an issue I'd just go to walmart.

There is a place here in J-Town that sells used stuff. Mostly they get desktops, but occasionally they get laptops. They had a nice one for $350 the other day. Almost bought it myself even though I don't need it. Bought several desktop systems from them over the last year or so and have been happy.

If you are looking for used laptops try Simtechs on Main St. They sell lease turn ins.

The compaq laptopl I am on now came from Best Buy, like $349 new. We have 2, both came from Best Buy and are on their 3rd and 4th years of use......

For $350 it looks like Best Buy and Wal Mart are comparable....15.6" screens, with 500gb hard drives and 4gb of ram memory and up to 8gb supported...

this one I'm on is not even 1/2 ram of memory, and only supports up to 1gb!! With used ones, that's the hangup- not having enough memory.

Mostly I need Office programs- to open student's papers and grade and return them.

When you buy a cheap computer, its cheap because its older tech. When you buy used its even older tech. I buy cheap new so you atleast have peace of mind of a warranty.

If you are needing the microsoft office programs check for the student/teacher editions and I think they are the cheapest at Sams club or BBY.. Student teacher edition is like $149 vs the $449 for regular office......

Check with your school and see if they offer if for free or reduced price for office. Personally I'd go Apple but they are pricey although they do last longer

Sometimes. But they are hellava lot more to repair if they do break down

The Apple guy was in the store and demo'd the Mac for me. It is amazing...but I just can't afford one now-cheapest Mac laptop was $1100 bucks!!
One of these days when I get caught up I'll get one and pass the Dell to the kids.
