Re: The Chicken Thread
All ducks needing to be sold are sold.
Figured out that I needed to get a few more pieces for the electric fence before I can set it up. GRRR.
Oh and stupid Carl got two chickens the other day. Lets just say that I LOVE Wonderdust! My normal course of action is to take some livestock antibiotic ointment and apply first to all wounds. The second day come back and Wonderdust the wounds. I also always give a shot of Penicillin to all injured birds. They are all leg banded now so I can tell who is who once they start the treatment. These three measures combined and I've yet to lose a single bird to wounds.
Electric fence gets finished next week. Bring it Carl. Bring it.

Re: The Chicken Thread
All my chickens seem to be doing fine. Only problem I have is with the rooster & our big dog. Rooster keeps staring him down & dog keeps peeing on him.

The one for sure rooster is starting to get his voice. Getting louder everyday. Might have a full crow within the next couple of days. Other we're not sure if it's a pullet or roo is still quiet. Will have to wait & see.Since we're unsure of the sex my daughters have named it Rupaul.

There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Re: The Chicken Thread
If the other one does end up being a roo and you don't want it, I would process him. Remember to let the body rest for 2-3 days in the fridge before eating. I can process if needed. AAANNNDDDD I can give you a pullet out of the next batch I have coming in next month to replace the roo if it turns out to be. (I'll keep it till August or Sept to make sure she is large enough to not get the crap beat out of her by the other chickens)
When they are 3 months or so some breeds are harder to tell than others so I am sorry if you got two. I'll make it all better

Re: The Chicken Thread
The electric fence has thus far stopped everything from ever going wrong. Even the squirrel living in the tree next to the run has moved out. My boxer has hit it twice, last night getting the full shock. He was terrified. My other boxer has yet to hit it... waiting...
I've even shocked myself on it... effballs that thing hurts!
I am most pleased with the netting. I need to correct a place in the back where the fence is a little too tight, but other than that its a simple system that pretty much says eff you to any and all predators.
Ducks come in today! Last shipment of those and these I'm actually going to keep and not sell off.
Chicks come in on the 22nd of June.
