Good first aid kits?

Post by 86 slo-vo » Tue Jun 25, 2013 9:30 am

I have a few small ones around but never seem to have what I need. Where can I find a GOOD kit that has everything I would need?

I'd like to pick up a couple of them, one for home and one for the truck.

Depends on what you are wanting out of your kit.. Do you want just basic first aid or do you want to be able to cover damn near any emergency?

I did have basic kits on here for as low as $10 that cover small stuff but I can order all the way up to tactical trauma kits that are $180 or more depending on what you want in it..

We bought ours from Cheaper Than Dirt a few years ago. It's been an amazing kit... even patched up a fellow KAC member after a range accident. I think we paid 40 for ours and its about time that we buy a new one.

I agree when it comes to Wal-Mart style mass market kits, but there are kits out there like those from EFA or SOL/Adven Medical that are pretty well purpose built and don't have a lot of "fluff" in them...

Here is my .02.
Spray can of "wound wash". (Burns, clensing chemicals, flushing eyes...)
Spray can of solarcaine. (Relieves pain and has antibacterial. Can be used on burns.)

Skip all the 4x4, 2x2 BS. Just buy rolls of sterile gauze in plastic individual packages. The 4x4's and stuff are in paper and don't stay clean. They need to be taped or wraped on. A roll can be stuffed into say a gut shot or just wrapped around a dog bite.

Ace bandages.

Burn bandages made to be easily removed from burns.

Trauma shears
That's all.

Depends on what you want to be able to handle. I have bandaids and neosporian in my center console of ours cars. I also keep a larue tactical downed operator kit in my truck. We have one we keep in our diaper bag too. Its small and compact and easy to grab. Also can fit in larger cargo pockets but it isn;t super comfortable there.

On my body armor i keep a larue trauma kit in a ifak pouch that has other odds and ends. hope to never use them but good to have.

I'm wanting one that would cover most scenarios that is preferably in a bag that I could toss in the back of the jeep and leave it until its needed.

Something a little smaller that could be left at home would be nice also.

I keep stuff like band aids and superglue in the truck now but you never really know what your going to roll up on. I'm not a first responder or anything but if I happen to come across something or something happens at home I'd like to know I had some stuff to help.

I'd like to take a first aid class or something like that but haven't seen much locally yet.

I like the look of that $48 kit, but I have no idea how to use probably 2/3 of the stuff in it and that worries me a bit.

I have spend hours looking for the right kit and have come to the conclusion....there is no perfect kit. I have 3 kits and 3 mini kits. The most used is the one i take to my pistol classes just because of the burn gel, sting pads, and splinter out.

#2 is in the house we grab for camping etc.

#3 is in the BOB.

The mini kits are in GHB's or vehicles.

I buy for overall content and add. Always add pills. Why they leave out benadryl pills I have no idea.
