My guess is that they were shooting at an upward angle at the feeder.

Person is having house remodeled and parents agreed to store furniture and household items in their unused shop. Mother gives away furniture to family in need because "you weren't using it and you can buy more". Didn't ask or anything, and didn't consider that the furniture was high-end custom stuff that cost a metric buttload. Son comes in one day while parents were on extended vacay, loads their furniture onto a moving van and gives it to another family in need. Tells mother "you weren't using it and you can always buy more". Mother isn't talking to anyone and is threatening disownment, damnation to hell, leprosy, and whatever other nasty thinks she can think of on all. Father is laughing his head off because Mother is a pushy, obnoxious hag who tends to pull stunts like this regularly. Plus, he hated the furniture and wanted to replace it but Mother was dead set on keeping it.
