Louisville Zoo
Says they now charge for parking and are loloking into selling alcohol to some extra coin. Thoughts?

The fact that they now charge for parking kinda grinds my gears because its already freaking expensive to go unless you buy zoo passes for the year.

Re: Louisville Zoo
Well that will be one more place we no longer go. I detest places that charge for parking. Hell you are paying a high enough admission price to go to the damn place, paying for parking is double dipping and that shit pisses me off....

Re: Louisville Zoo
They've gone from a nice friendly neighborhood zoo where you could spend an afternoon with your kids for little money to one that is trying to go upscale and is now charging for everything but breathing their air.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

How much money was spend, by the city or whoever, creating the pointless obstacle course on Trevilian out front?

If you go often the membership is a bargain plus they don't charge you for parking. I get one and sometimes go for a walk there.Coach wrote:Ill keep buying a membership every year and keep enjoying it. We just bring our own food in.
Reminds me, time to renew.

Re: Louisville Zoo
We usually buy zoo passes which if i understand correctly keeps you from paying parking. So it still seems like tha best deal. We only have to go about 3 times and they pay for themselves. We go about once a month in the summer and occassionally in the spring and fall, so we get our monies worth.

Agreed. IMO the more places that can learn to supplement there funding with revenue generating activities vs gov handouts the better.Frailer wrote:I think it's great that they're trying to find a way for zoo patrons to pay expenses rather than begging for public funds.

That would be Jim King. From what I hear, it was King's wife that really wanted that monstrosity constructed.
I forget the dollar figure, but it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than it should have cost, like 6-8 times what a job like that should run. There was supposed to be a large, grand display/signage constructed at the old entrance there by the road, but all the $$$ were squandered away.
We get annual passes (which are tax deductible); members don't pay the parking fee.
As far as selling beer- I don't agree with it at all. If you can't even go to the zoo without drinking a beer you're an alcoholic, and a drunk idiot around kids and wild animals is a recipe for disaster, not to mention drunk Daddy or Mommy now driving their kids home...

Louisville Zoo
It isn't the money going up that bothers me. It's the fact that it is paying for parking when parking should be free. Explanation on that is if I am going to spend money at your establishment and I already owe you before I get in the doors is a turn off. I would rather them just raise the ticket and say it is a maintenance fee.

here's a idea- don't let untrained people drive a train way too fast. Govern that thing like they do semi's to avoid tragedies from happening. Avoid- lawsuits

Re: Louisville Zoo
I've been twice to the zoo. Too expensive for my blood. Luckily they give a military discount. Even when our party was dropped off, they charged us for parking. :-/
