At it again
Well I'll never learn from past ass kickings. I started another kuksa project tonight. This one is starting from a green log that was cut late yesterday afternoon.

Re: At it again
Started on the basic shape and the bowl. Green carving is MUCH easier than seasoned wood and it goes faster but I have to be careful in drying to avoid cracks.

Looks nice.

Re: At it again
Here is progress on my last piece of hickory knot (?). Bowl almost done, just some smoothing swipes and sanding. I was talking to my neighbor who works for woodcraft and he reminded me of a little used tool that might help me, I've had this set of cabinet scrapers on the shelf for 5 years and hardly used them. Man what a nice finish these put on the wood, now just to figure out how to sharpen them.

At it again
Sneak preview, just sealed it with some BLO till I get back to it. Bowl is 4" wide X 2" deep, probably just over 8oz.

Just curious....at this point what all tools/supplies have you used to make this one?

Re: At it again
Axe and knife to clean off bark. Bow saw to half the log. Spoon knife and hand gouge to carve bowl. Scraper and sand paper for finish shape. Still need more axe, knife and saw work to shape the outside, will use the drill to make finger hole.JustShootIt wrote:Looks great....as always...
