I don't know why you would do something like 'clean' finely aged gear. 8-)

Cause it smells like balls.

I don't know, just seemed to be the way it worked. I'm sure there's a logistical/budgetary reason. It has been changing lately because the Marines have been doing their own thing, especially with weapons.

The Marines aren't allowed to have nice, new things, as breaking things is what they do best. Those boys could tear up an anvil.

The $85.00 is for ONE plate. Here is a better deal:

The problem that you have with steel plates is the fragmentation when a bullet hits them. Just imagine many little razor blades leaving the plate radially and hitting your neck, chin, inner arms, etc. You need to apply some type of covering over the plate to stop this. Here is a thread that I made in that:

Truly? I ask this out of total ignorance. It was my understanding mr I may be Cmpletely wrong that marines were usually first in first out and such?
I've heard this too from friends who are marines. The movies make them look like the bad asses with all the latest cool toys when in reality they spend most of their time with navy hand me downs. Or something along those lines.

They are such a small force compared to the Army that the budget is much less. They are under the Navy whereas the Army is under no one except DoD.

Gotcha. Makes sense. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity
.
There is still units with in the Marine Corps (non combat unit) that use the interceptor flak. My unit just not the new gear issues that came out late last year. And with the way the budget is working the Corps is seeing the blank check start to be filled in. Its getting to the point of for a 3 day blank fire field op guys are getting 10-20 blanks and well fill sandbags and have to bring them back. When I went over we were trying to steal gear off of the Army/Air Force (they all have the sweet MICH helmet) The marine corps find the way to give us the shitty gear that no one else wants and we make do

Coach wrote:How much does all that weigh?
my body armor, which is the IOTV version (XL) w/ plates is right at 32 lbs
i then add my FLC(MOLLE vest) with 7 mags, medical kit, and a few other various pouches
I also carry a radio(ASIP style), extra battery(not light), and extra handmic, etc weighing in around 15 or so
the MICH helmet doesn't weigh much until you put on the NVGs which are PVS-14s in my case, but since I am mounted most of the time, they don't stay attached

65 lbs is about average for what a soldier has to carry across the board, more if purely dismounted

it varies a lot per unit, especially service to service

the Marines that I have worked with have had the latest gear, but i havent worked with many at all, they were attached to us for reconnaisance work

There are too many choices! I think long term I would either like a chest rig that I can place over a plate carrier with soft armor, or just buy a plate carrier with cumberbun.

Mayflower PCs come with fastex for attaching Mayflower rigs.
Thus be it PC or chest rig, your load out remains the same.

I started out with the LBE or ALICE gear, It was actually not that bad if you modified it to be metal free and added a belt pad. It still kicks ass when humping through the hills of eastern KY.

Then the LBV, what a chunk of shit that thing was. You could take the back of it off and modify it to be a great set of suspenders for the LBE though.

Then the Vest, A crap load of horrible pockets in awful positions.

I got more nylon then a welfare mom has kid.

NO, bad! Read about what the troops think of the KDH after using it in country. If you're serious about the KDH as a possibility, I can provide links that might change your mind.
