Gun should only rust if you don't take care of it.Niceguy wrote:Any other barrel options anyone would recommend. I LOVE everything else about the Paclite, other than the accuracy and you only get so many shots before the bolt face is screwed. I shoot a lot... 5.5" factory barrel was definitely more accurate. The down side of factory barrel is weight, lack of threads, and more rust prone.
Exactly... It's my set on the desk top and pop off rounds when I'm bored, for when critters are in my yard or whatever gun. It gets shot A LOT (100-500+ a week) and cleaned a little.WLJ wrote:Gun should only rust if you don't take care of it.Niceguy wrote:Any other barrel options anyone would recommend. I really like the one Cranky did for Mr Swede...Wyldman wrote:Get a stainless threaded 5.5" heavy barrel. That weight (& rigidity) is one of the reasons they are so accurate!

No new barrelsNiceguy wrote:Maybe I should just do their barrel assembly. By time I buy a Ruger barrel and pay to have it threaded, I could just get the Volquartzin barrel and be done.
Boy let see even at gunbroker price 310 for 5.5 bull barrel....Niceguy wrote:Yep, I hate how Ruger did that...
It weighs a lot less than the Ruger upper and it's coated. The entire 6" pistol weighs 1.12 lbs. Still haven't talked myself into it. Just looking at all my options. I'm guessing my Paclite upper is nearing it's life expectancy...

Like I said, I really like Kyswede's and will probably go that route. Paclite is everything I want in it, but accuracy and longevity. It's basically cheap, near maintenance free, weighs nothing. It is accurate enough, but I definitely scored better matches with the factory 5.5" barrel.guncrank1 wrote:Niceguy wrote:Yep, I hate how Ruger did that...

Of course it "light"
And coated .....light/coated = $$$$$
Give me a stainless gun that even that has some weight
But that is me
So do I.Niceguy wrote:I really like the one Cranky did for Mr Swede...Wyldman wrote:Get a stainless threaded 5.5" heavy barrel. That weight (& rigidity) is one of the reasons they are so accurate!

This. I foolishly sold my 5.5" bull barrel Mark II to a buddy back in the 80s. Found a 6-7/8" model for $300 at a gun show a few years back and jumped on it. I've never benched it to see how accurate it is, but I know it's more accurate than me. It hits exactly where the sights are pointed when the trigger breaks...every single time. Last weekend I was practicing with some of my .38 snubbies; I finished the range session by putting a few magazines through this gun, and it was almost like cheating.Wyldman wrote:Go find a good MKII and build it. As an aside, it is by far the dirtiest pistol I own. I absolutely *despise* reassembling these damn things.
