Magazine question
I'm a few days away from picking up my first 1911, springfield loaded model. I have read a lot of negatives on the factory magazines. What reliable "budget minded" magazines are out there? As a newb to the 1911 market, the options are overwhelming. What should I look into picking up?

Re: Magazine question
Wilson makes good ones, people seem to like Chip McCormicks, I've had good luck with ACT (Italian made and what Rock Island supplies with their pistols) but I've also never had a problem with factory Springfield mags.
I hate to say this, but Kimber mags have always worked well for me too.

Re: Magazine question
Before I replace the factory mags, I'm gonna run the hell out of em lol. The Wilson and chip McCormick are the 2 I have been looking at the most.

Re: Magazine question
I'll support the chip mags but they are kinda pricey. A few people bought the shooting star mags made by chip and they were quite a bit cheaper. I'm waiting to hear what people think of those.

Re: Magazine question
Mags for any semi-auto handgun are not a place to go cheap on. Get good ones and the worst you'll have to do is replace springs every few years. Mec-Gar, the ones talked about above, or factory OEM are what you need to stick with.
Avoid ProMag crap at all costs! They aren't worth shit, period!

Re: Magazine question
I buy a few of the $6 Para mags from one of the vendors (brownells??) at the KCR MGS every year and they work very good. Only 7 rounds, but good range mags.

Re: Magazine question
I'm gonna pick up some nice aftermarket mags like mentioned here. The gun I got used came with a no name mag and a colt mag. Then my buddy gave me 2 no name GI mags with military I'd numbers on them. They are old and look rough, but they worked with a couple boxes of ammo yesterday. First priority is some good name brand mags though.
