CZ-527 in 223 or 7.62x39?
Got bit by the small bolt action carbine bug and I've settled on the CZ-527 16" carbine.
Can't decide between 223 or 7.62x39.
Handy little bugger.

There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Not really if you stick with steel for both. Don't see why these should have an issue with steel.Rem700 wrote:7.62 is cheaper to shoot isnt it?

Well then i would probably pick .223 if it were me. I just like that round better for some reason. And yea i wouldnt see it haing a problem with steel casing, in my experiences most bolt actions dont have issues with steel like semi autos do.

me too. good for varmits with 40-ish grain bullets and deer with heavier rounds.DDgunslinger wrote:In a bolt action carbine length rifle, I would go .223 personally
With ballistics similar to a 30-30, not sure of the utility of a 7.62x39 bolt gun.

Brain farted the barrel length, it 18.5, not 16.

Re: CZ-527 in 223 or 7.62x39?
The 5.56 was considered more lethal by the Soviets which is one of the reasons they replaced the 7.62x39 with the 5.45x39 starting back in the 70s. There's alot more to wound ballistics than just bullet size. But of course people will argue about this until the cows come home. Fact is fact, the 7.62x39 was replaced over 30 years, and you don't go through the time and expense of doing so unless the replacement is an improvement. But this is a bit off topic.Rem700 wrote:Well then i would probably pick .223 if it were me. I just like that round better for some reason.
While I still prefer the 223/5.56, I also like the 7.62x39, it's still a good round.

Stick with .223 and impress your friends with what that lil rifle will do.
