Hammer-fired guns have advantages over their striker-fired counterparts. Every striker-fired gun's trigger sucks--some worse than others, but they all feel like a Nerf gun to some degree. I picked up a Ruger GSR a few years ago. I keep intending to mount a micro red dot on it, but it shoots so well that irons that I haven't bothered yet.

If I were limited to one centerfire rifle for everything I'd probably pick this one.

First thing I'd do is load a mag with one round. If the bolt locks open after firing, the gas system and buffer are probably fine.
