9mm Revolver for Carry/Bedside
I'm afraid I'm going to lose the Semi-auto v. Revolver battle with a new shooter that wants a gun but probably won't practice. If that happens, I need a revolver to steer them to. High reliability, relatively high capacity (MINIMUM 6 rounds). Not Taurus or worse. Nothing longer than a 4" barrel. I'm looking for the Glock 19 of the revolver world here, not a pink Airweight J-frame.
What's out there?

A six shot 9mm revolver is a tall order. There's the new Korth, but the "Glock 19 of the revolver world" it ain't.
Is this for a carry gun or for bedside/home defense?
And why does it have to be 9mm?

Re: 9mm Revolver for Carry/Bedside
Personally, i would steer away from the 9mm due to loading and ejecting issues. I have a couple revolvers in traditionally semi-auto calibers. I love them, but would not recommend for home defense unless moon clips are used. The star ejector doesn't work to get rid of the empties since there is no rim.
The S&W 686 can come with 7 chambers, and the S&W 627 has 8, both 357 magnum. Love them lots. Have speedloaders and speed strips. They make loading/unloading nice.

I have nothing to add here, but please educate me on why you wouldn't give someone like that a full size striker fired pistol

You can't force people to buy what you want them to buy. If someone is convinced they want a revolver, PERIOD, they're going to buy a revolver.PDM wrote:I have nothing to add here, but please educate me on why you wouldn't give someone like that a full size striker fired pistol

Re: 9mm Revolver for Carry/Bedside
yeah having had a .380 , .40 and 9mm revolver, I would forego that for a new person. They can't deal with it. And ONLY taurus makes a reasonably priced revolver too. Not a good combo. .38 or .357 are the choices in revolver because of the reliability.

Re: 9mm Revolver for Carry/Bedside
There's not a thing in the world wrong with a revolver. I carry a J-frame with some frequency.
But revolvers in semi-auto calibers are niche items...with their own unique set of problems. For example, a bent moon clip can be a nightmare.
The Glock 19 equivalent would be one of the S&W K frames (Model 10, 13, 15, 64, 65, etc.)

Charter Arms has a model that doesn't use moon clips
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

I don't think I would want to trust my life to that. 38s will occasionally (albeit rarely) jump the extractor star.WLJ wrote:Charter Arms has a model that doesn't use moon clips
Then again, few of us can reload a revolver fast enough for this to be a deciding factor. If the fight's not over when the cylinder's empty...it's time to beat feet.
