New computer
Okay let me preface this with the fact that every other electronic device in my house is an apple product (well not TV )
2 iPhones, 1 ipad, 2 Apple TV boxes, and a MacBook Air
We are looking into buying a desktop computer next but really dont want to spend the cash on the iMac desktop as they are all over $1,000. Only way to swing that would be to sell the laptop.
I was browsing best buy and looking at the all in one systems as that seems to be the most popular and would be best for the space we are going to use.
I am really looking to spend <$500
Things I want/need.
We do not play games or anything so biggest things for us are photos and my wife's work (teacher).
500gb storage
4 GB ram
Ability to hook to wireless printer and wireless internet.
That is really it.
Dell, HP, Lenovo all make models. What ones have you used? Where is a good place to buy. Best buy? Others?

Re: New computer
I get office systems quite a bit and do not need the latest and greatest.
I just ordered two refurb Dell systems from an Amazon warehouse deal for $98 each. Win 7 Professional, older Core 2 CPU, 4 GIG RAM, 500GB hard drive, DVD burner / player. No wireless though, only a NIC for wired.
Works great. Plenty fast enough.
If you want to go direct to the manufacturer both Dell and HP have refurb shops as part of their web store. $500 should get you a decent PC from there.
Check this one out.

Re: New computer
Building is the king of PCs. If you care enough or are interested enough to learn, you can save a lot of money OR get a better computer for your money. As a teacher your wife may be able to buy/get cheap/free copies of Windows, too.
If you don't want to build, don't have a nephew/cousin/brother that would build for you, etc. then I would wait for a good deal to pop up on Tiger Direct or New Egg. Sign up for their email alerts. As for big retail chains, I don't care for them and I don't believe any one is better than another.

Re: New computer
We get free Microsoft offic and maybe windows I know we get free antivirus too.
Don't wanna build. Want something I can plug in and start.
Also really like the all in one since our desk doesn't have a good place for a tower. Very limited space

Re: New computer
Last ones I bought were at Walmart. I run an ACER and have had 0 problems with it for the several years I have had it. It was like 400 or so if I remember right. Wife's desktop also came from there but was just a little more expensive. Hers came with a nice monitor and was like 600 several years ago.
Dells I have had over the years have been fine and I have run emachines (now changed to something else I think) with very little problems for what you are talking about.
Read the online reviews and they are pretty accurate from what I have found over the years.

Re: New computer
I bought a top of the line refurbished Dell for $700 vs $1200 new. Was going to build a system but this price was better.
Best buy has a bargain page with refurbs.

Re: New computer
if i were buying i would look at lenovo, great customer service and a quality product in my opinion. They literally flew a tech out and fixed a piece of hardware under warranty on my laptop.

Re: New computer
Reading Microsoft is going to offer a free windows 10 upgrade for Win 7 & 8 for a year. It's due to be released later this year.
win 7 works best with a mouse, win 8 works best with a touch screen. Win 10 is combining the best features of both.

There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.
