Piston Driven
Ok I have some real problems with my SBR. I have been thinking about getting a American Tactical AR-15 FIX Retro-Fit Gas Piston System.

So do the experts think would help with my gas system getting screwed up. Or just keep fighting the problems till I get the thing running right.

Re: Piston Driven
What problems are you having Dustin?
I had a few issues with my 7.5 in upper when I first got it, but it runs just as good as my 16 in now.....
Very reliable.........
Would like to know what troubles you are having...
I almost bought the piston kit AH had a while back for my 7.5 in upper, but after reading up on it and hearing what guys here had to say, I decided against it........

Re: Piston Driven
supposedly piston systems wear the buffer tube out and your supposed to buy a special anti-tilt tube.of course they are like $80 too

Re: Piston Driven
Sell that upper and buy a spikes 10" is what id do...i had great reliability out of the one i had. You can try my bcg and spikes buffer if you want to troubleshoot yours...or use my whole upper if you want to troubleshoot your hammer spring, etc. Mine has at least 200rd since being cleaned, but has had no reliability issues.

Re: Piston Driven
A good gun is good a shit gun is shit. You just have to know what a piston ar is, what a di ar is, what you are doing to the design by retrofitting it with a piston, etc. All things being equal, Id rather have a high quality piston ar than a di ar. An ak is cheaper than a hk 416 tho so I have an ak, lol

There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Piston Driven
A piston AR is supposedly cleaner running than a DI gun. While you don't have gasses and residue making it into the bolt/carrier area, you do still have TI clean and live the piston area as it all stops there.
My biggest problem with piston systems is they are all different, there's no parts interchangeability and finding replacement parts locally is about impossible if something breaks.

Re: Piston Driven
I dont think so. I think I found the problem. That load I was using was low presure. Only pushing 30000 cups.

Re: Piston Driven
I have seen some reports of Wolf and Tula not running right in AR pistols because of low pressure but military rounds worked fine.

Re: Piston Driven
I tried his load in my MSAR. Seemed to lack enough pressure to cycle, even after we upped the piston pressure setting on the rifle.Dustin wrote:I dont think so. I think I found the problem. That load I was using was low presure. Only pushing 30000 cups.

Re: Piston Driven
I am going run out the last of the ammo on Dads Mini or WLJs AR. They work great in there.

30,000 cups well if that was demi-cups that's not much.
Now 30,000 coffe cups....
That is 30,000 CUP is alittle over .5 of nominal .
