I have a few gift cards to Cabelas and am looking to get a bow.......i know nothing of them! I will most likely talk my neighbor into going with me and reward him with beer lol. He is a big bow hunter. But just curious what yall suggest. Im tall (6'5") and i know draw length is a thing......

so what up? What do i need to get started. Good bow for under $500 ish?

Your going to have a long draw length, which will narrow down your choice of bows. I have an older Matthews, but bought my son one of the newer Bear archery models a year or so ago. I'm not a brand snob. I was impressed with the bear when I shot it, even though it really didn't fit me properly. I think there are lots of good bows out there with out dropping $1k on just the bow. I can't remember if Cabelas has a practice lane, but it would be nice to shoot several bows for comparison, and to see which one feels good in your hand.

That’s what I did at Kings. I think cabelas has a lane. At King’s I told them I was looking for my first bow and nothing too expensive. They picked out a few entry level bows and set them up for my length of pull to try out side by side. Ended up with a Hoyt that I like a lot for around $400

I got and setup my wife with a Lefty, Diamond infinite edge bow. They are fully adjustable from like 5 lbs to 70 lbs and 13 to 30” draw length, without the need for a pro shop and bow press. The pro model goes to 31” draw length. There are other mfgs too, that make these diy adjustable bows. If it fits you I think it would be a great first bow, and one to keep forever and teach others. I would not get the package with sight, rest etc. they were chincy. I replaced the sight with a nice single pin mbg pure driven 75, and useda dropaway arrow rest, a qad ultrarest hdx. I am pretty impressed with that little bow, wish it was right hand.

Same height . I got a PSE Nova . Very basic beginners bow but it did have my draw length . Good thing is i can buy pse arrows as is and use them . They dont have to be shortened .
