Ok The spoon is finished! Just put on the first coat of mineral oil and it soaked right in. I'm really happy how it turned out.

I found this today and ordered it. It's going to make gouging out the bowl of the spoon much easier and be useful for other woodcraft ideas I have as well. At the price, it is by far the best deal I've found, and it's in stock!

I am hoping to play with this over the weekend. I have a couple hoof knives out in the barn from my horse owning days. They are curved at the end like SOL's knife. Gonna sharpen em up and see what happens.

I was looking at the split off pieces left over from making the spoon and inspiration hit me. This one is about 5 inches long and fit in my kit nicely.

I told myself I had to quit at midnight. Here's day one... from a long stick, to a short stick, to half a short stick, to a spoon-like object.

The floor is still covered in wood shavings... In the long term, I'll clean those up. In the short term though, I finally have my own bathroom.

^^ Awesome spoons! This thread has re kindled an old hobby... especially since so many here seem to share the same interest and passion for old-time wood working. My next weekend project will be to build a draw knife bench for future spoon making and other projects:

I actually like your squared off design, Coach. Lends efficiency to the carving process. I'mma take this idea and run with it on my next spoon. Reminds me of my favorite measuring spoon set --

Finally got mine most of the way finished.

All work has been done with an esee 4 and a small piece of sandpaper to smooth it out.

I did drill the hole though.

If anybody is interested, I am about to take down big maple branch out of the tree in my front yard. If anybody would like a piece of it, sing out and let it be known or I'll just cut it up and pitch it.
