Planning to spray bomb a cheap AR and would like a little advice. Best thing to clean with, what to tape, do' and don'ts... I'm not putting much work in it, just something to play with hopefully not f nothing up or all the paint come off on me the first time I shoot it more than 2 rounds... This rifle. I may change the Strikefire for a Sparc and add a light first. Image

Is "spray bomb" a particular thing, or are you just looking for info on painting a rifle?

I cleaned my rifle with a spray bottle of 91% rubbing alcohol and lint free cloth. Tape the glass and any painted/lasered markings on the optic you care about being able to read. Plug the muzzle with a foam earplug if you're feeling fancy. Stick a magazine in the magazine well. Spray.

Well hell, that's easy enough... No crazy cleaning methods or major prep work, that's what I'm talking about...haha

I guess spray bomb is just automotive slang...haha
Any idea if spraying it down in any degreaser like super clean, spray nine of anything like that and then hosing it off or using brake cleaner or ether would help get to all little crevices any better?

I don't see how it could hurt. The cleaner the better, it all depends on how much time you want to sink into it. You can also matte clear coat when finished.

I didn't clear coat, and I cleaned with just 91% alcohol.

Sweet! Definitely sounds easy enough... I'll not be putting in a ton of time into it.

As with all painting, the better you clean and prep it the better it's gonna stick and longer it's gonna last.

I do it like whoots, but i dont even stencil or try to get some sort of patern, if its right there i might use a branch or leaf. But most of the time i just free hand it. I will say dont make it to thick , and choose your colors wisely.

That's basically my plan also, and maybe only 2 or 3 colors. Could you fill me in a little more on the last statement? Are there particular colors that don't work well that seem like they would?

With spray paint and the basic camo colors, you end up a muted look, its better then black but not by much. Make sure you get some dramatic colore differences and then use the spray to blend them, get a very green semi bright flat green, like new grass color green. A rust color brown, the basic camo tan , by lightly misting these you will get a better look and a great blending.
