AR .22 back to 5.56

I've put maybe 5,000 rounds each through a pair of ARs with CMMG and Ceiner conversions. Now I'm wondering about slipping the original bolts back in to fire 5.56x45. Of course the barrel and reciever will get scrubbed clean but what about the gas tube? No 5.56 in 5,000 rounds, can there be a problem with trying to "shoot" it clean? I'd expect it to not cycle if plugged but is there any danger I'm not realizing?

first!

I would clean it just because of how dirty .22's are.

But, but, but that's not the answer I wanted. It's more work!

What I always done with mine is after a day of shoting 22 through my AR I put the 5.56 bolt back in and fire off two or three rounds of 5.56 to blow it out.

Heck, try it, the worst that can happen if the tube is clogged up is that the rifle won't cycle.

You could soak the tube in lead removing solution
Like some Hoppes 9
Or Kroil

What previous posters said. I knock a 223 after about 500 rnds of 22. Cleans the crap out of the tube. For this, id hoppes it up after a disaaembly and scrub it out with a real thin pipe cleaner.
