"Hanned" type 22lr file die to make SGB bullets.

Post by Geno » Sat Aug 06, 2016 5:42 pm

I believe that the company that made them are out of business. I am looking for one or having one made. Any machinists interested in making something similar? They are essentially a 22lr chambered piece of steel that has been shortened to expose a small amount of the round lead point. The length is usually optimized to make a flat point, or meplat, of half the diameter of the projectile. Then the die is hardened to resist deformation from a file.
Years ago I was able to shoot some of these reshaped tips from one of these tools. Impressive results on groundhogs out to 45 to 50 yards. Better than the hollow points I had been using. I imagine more of a "slap" on impact, like cast bullets in revolver rounds.

Any suggestions or anyone willing to make one or a few?

I know you are busy and not in your old shop. Wasn't sure if you are still in this game. Are you familiar with the die that I described? How much time and $ for such a piece?
