CONTEST!!!
I have been thinking about trying to put together a small survival kit somewhere between the size of a small tin or at the largest one of the small Pelican 1020 cases. Problem is, I dont really know what all to put in there so I thought I would make a game of it and ask you all your opinions and provide a prize to the one that submits a list closest to what I go with in the end.
For the prize: Magnesium Fire starter block, i will cover shipping to the winner.
Time frame, I will keep this going till the weekend or early next week sometime.
Post up a list of what YOU would use if you were building a small survival kit to keep in your cargo pocket or maybe a pocket on your briefcase or small carry bag. I am not going to spend a fortune building this although there is a possibility that the end product may be raffled off in the future or end up as a door prize at one of the meets......... who knows.

Re: CONTEST!!!
Mini Bic lighter wrapped in duct tape, matches in a waterproof matches container.
Wrap the matches container with fishing line and put 2 weighted hooks in the match holder with the matches.
Streamlight microstream with a lithium aaa, fox 40 whistle, and a signal mirror
Gerber paraframe (small one) with a 550 lanyard tied in a knot that will store a good length of cord in a small space.
Gauze roll sealed in plastic, ace bandage, poncho, emergency blanket, various pills
Store it all in a Kleen Kanteen wide mouth water bottle. Or for cargo pocket use store it all in a heavy duty ziplock or water bladder.

Re: CONTEST!!!
Very Compact Basic Survival Kit:
Esee Izula II
Water Purification Tablets
550 Cord
Fire Starter w/Tinder
Fishing Kit (line, x3 hooks)
Signal Mirror
Compass
Wire Saw
x2 ESEE Arrowheads
Whistle
Emergency Heat Blanket
All of which will fit in a small zip lock bag wrapped in some 90MPH tape (Duct Tape for you civilians lol) and thrown in a pack, pelican case or whatever
There is a lot of variants and things you can add or subtract... this pretty much covers all the basics and will allow you to be able to produce water, shelter, fire and food... which is 4 out 5 things necessary to survive. It also gives you two additional forms of communication (Signal Mirror/Whistle). Anyway, I hope this helps ya out.
