Trigger

Post by iron369 » Tue Feb 07, 2017 6:37 pm

Anybody with any experience with the Rise Armament ra-140 Super Sporting Trigger? Thinking of changing to a drop in, but not looking to spend a fortune.

I don't have any personal experience with Rise Armament.

I know there will be someone who disagrees with me out there, but IN GENERAL your trigger is not the area to save a buck. Cheap fancy triggers tend to feel pretty good until they break or turn into mushy single stage triggers, which RRA 2-stage triggers are known to do. If you need to save money, get one of the better standard single stage triggers on the market like BCM's improved trigger, an ALG trigger, or an SOLGW Liberty Fighting Trigger. The trigger you're asking about is roughly $100. For $160 you can step up to the known high quality and great feeling Geissele G2S. The G2S is their "value" trigger. It functions and feels the same as their flagship $240 SSA trigger. They cut costs by batch magnetic particle inspecting (as opposed to every single trigger component), changing the way the pins are held in place, and not being laser engraved. You could find it even cheaper with a coupon or sale at Primary Arms, DSG, or another retailer.

It looks like PA has the Geiselle g2s on sale with a lpk for $114.00. I may just "pull the trigger" on that one.

Damn good deal! I have 2 AR's with that trigger. They are nice. I never thought the mil-spec triggers were bad until I tried one of these...

Don't forget Timney! They make some great drop in triggers, rivaling Giessele, IMO. I have Timney single stage triggers in both of my AR-10s.

I bought a Hipertouch 24C for a recent build. Haven't had it out much yet, but from what I have seen so far it's real sweet. No creep or travel at all. It's set for 2.5lb trigger pull.

I'll have it on the 18th at New Haven if anyone wants to check it out. Also I should be bringing my newest build with a Franklin BFS Gen 3. Haven't tried it out other that the checks. So far so good but I need to try it out on the range to actually see if it was worth the coin.

Save up a little longer and go with something better if you are looking to upgrade. You will be happier this way. I run a hiperfire 24c in my 3gun rifle and I like it. There are tons of good options out there under or around the $250 mark. AR gold, giessele (spelling?), CMC, Larue, etc. Tuning a mil spec trigger is just a bandaid, and getting something that's just a small upgrade isn't worth it.

For what its worth I've owned a JP, Hiperfire, and a few others. I still have a milspec in my trunk gun (staying that way because I want it simple) but my SBR has a JP in it and my 3gun rifle has a 24c. Ive shot all kinds of various models and the AR gold is on the list for my next rifle build.

Im pretty fond of standard AR 15 triggers, I do know that with all the cheap parts avalible now you can find some pretty crappy ones, but as it was intended the factory trigger suits all my needs. I run the in every thing from precision setups to SBRs, and everything in between.
