POSITION TITLE: Gunsmithing Department Faculty
POSITION #: 300130
POSITION STATUS: Exempt​​​​​​​FLSA STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Dean of CTE
SUPERVISES: Not Applicable

POSITION SUMMARY:​

Trinidad State Junior College seeks a Gunsmithing Department Faculty. This individual is responsible for instruction in assigned classes according to established course model and syllabus and provides instruction to students on general Gunsmithing especially Stock Making, Machine Shop work as applied to Gunsmithing and Pistol and Revolver Smithing. This position reports directly to the Dean of Career and Technical Education.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Uphold the values and credibility of the College.
• Teach Stock Making, Pistol and Revolver Smithing, Machine Shop and other assigned classes in keeping with the Gunsmithing Department, according to Gunsmithing Department Curriculum and College mission and philosophy.
• Advise students on academic matters and career choices according to Trinidad State Junior College guidelines.
• Maintain student records including Gunsmithing Department student tracking and VE-135.
• Abide by all relevant college and CCCS and SBCCOE policies and Procedures.
• At the first class meeting, provide students with a syllabus for the course that includes all components of the course master syllabus.
• By the end of the first week of class, provide the Dean of CTE with a copy of the course syllabus.
• Complete requisition forms and follow policy and procedure rules for purchasing or acquiring materials and or supplies for the Gunsmithing program.
• Develop and maintain a strong and positive working relationship with the community as it relates to utilization of property, equipment and any other sources of assistance that is received from the community or business partners.
• Evaluate student performance in accordance with student learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus.
• Conduct student evaluations of instruction in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance and grading of all students and submit required records according to published deadlines.
• Attend departmental/divisional/instruction- wide meetings as called by the Dean, Associate Dean or President.
• Participate in faculty development activities as required; instructors must complete “New Faculty Orientation” during their first year.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Career and Technical Education Administration

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

• Must be available to teach day and or evening and or summer classes as assigned.
• AAS Degree in Gunsmithing and documented proof of five years full time work experience as a Gunsmith; or documented proof seven years full time work as a gunsmith.
• Ability to obtain a Colorado Vocational Credential
• Ability to work in a team environment and to follow established Gunsmithing curriculum
• Thorough knowledge and ability to teach general Gunsmithing especially Stock Making, Machine Shop Work as applied to Gunsmithing, as well as Pistol and Revolver Smithing.
• A strong commitment to working with students and faculty in necessary.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to legally possess and own firearms.

PREFERRED:

• AAS degree in Gunsmithing or Bachelor’s Degree in Vocational Education.
• Have some management, supervisory or teaching experience in classroom
• Ability to teach checkering
• Experience with customizing and repairing synthetic stocks
• Experience as an owner or manager of a retail gun shop
• Ability to teach all core Gunsmithing and NRA Safety Instructor courses as needed
• Demonstrative commitment to and skill in working with traditional and non-traditional students
• Familiarity with classroom and occupational technology and teaching experience
• FFL License
• Competency in computer skills needed to perform grading, email, assembly of syllabi, assignments and tests and other necessary computer operations needed to perform teaching job

SALARY:

Full-time 9-month contract paid over twelve months. Salary range is based on institutional salary schedule, including consideration of experience and education. Excellent benefit package including health, dental, vision and retirement is available.
