In my experience a rifle or any rifled firearm that shoots terrible is always improved with a recrowning

I agree, though his results are suprising. I'd like to try this myself sometime.

In the article where it is really ground into the barrel and get good groups
That is similiar to what you do a M1 Garand that has cleaning rod wear at muzzle.

You counterbore with a drill bit to clean up the damage.
and then follow that with a plioted lapping tool.
