Anti-walk pins
Anyone ever use the anti-walk pins? If so, what brand? There seems to be a few recognizable names in the game and a few no so recognizable. Here's why I ask....
I took my ar9 sbr to the range today and had the hammer pin back out on me. It the first time I've have it happen on any rifle so I didn't know why the action was locked up until I got it home and went to take the upper off the lower. Everything I've read online says that the ar9 is prone to this happening. With the fcg out of the lower, I checked the hammer pin in the hammer. The j-hook in the hammer is really strong. I really love this trigger and don't want to put another hammer in it so I think the anti-walk pins will suit my needs to keep this from happening again. Oh, the rifle had exactly 31 rounds (one unsuppressed and 30 suppressed) of 147gr fmj through it before this happened so I don't think excessive wear is the issue.

Re: Anti-walk pins
KNS are the only ones I've used as well, they serve there purpose. I have them on a lower that now has almost 20k rds on it with no issues, so I would say they are good to go.

Could someone enlighten me as to why this is so if true?iron369 wrote:Everything I've read online says that the ar9 is prone to this happening.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Re: Anti-walk pins
Haven't had that issue on my AR9. It's a standard AR trigger and pins so I don't see why they would be any more prone to this than as AR15. What lower is yours?

From the description of the KNS pins...WLJ wrote:Could someone enlighten me as to why this is so if true?iron369 wrote:Everything I've read online says that the ar9 is prone to this happening.
These are the Generation 2 Mod 2 pin sets. They are the STRONGEST pins that can be produced and were designed to withstand the high impact of full and semi-automatic 9mm and .223 suppressed weapons.

Re: Anti-walk pins
If your pins walk, you have a problem. Either the pins or the lower. That said, barring a few exceptions, it's not detrimental to install anti-walk pins.
KNS pins are pretty highly regarded. I've never had to use them, but based on who else recommends them, I'd say they'd be your best bet.

Re: Anti-walk pins
The reason people add KNS pins or similar to their AR9 setups is because the recoil is so harsh on the operating system and trigger. Being blowback it slams the bolt to the rear and hits the hammer with force. It can and will after a tons of rounds wallow out your hammer pins and possibly trigger pins. The KNS pins will keep them in place and help to add an extra point of contact so it has less force on one small area. They are less than $30 and its very cheap insurance when you have a lot of money tied up into a lower like a Machine gun or SBR.

Re: Anti-walk pins
Blowback opperation produces significantly higher recoil impuls, colt did make a locked breech 9mm ar for the department of energy years ago but short of that they are all blowback. Plenty of ways to fix it, stake it, use locktight, or buy pins with some sort of lock. The early ones i have seen just had a slightly longer pin and c clipsWLJ wrote:Could someone enlighten me as to why this is so if true?iron369 wrote:Everything I've read online says that the ar9 is prone to this happening.

Re: Anti-walk pins
I think you'll be pleased with your decision, I will probably pick up some for my 9mm SBR once the stamp comes in and it's in its final configuration.iron369 wrote:I ordered the kns pins just to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Re: Anti-walk pins
I should get some of them too. I'd hate for the FCG holes on my 9mm to get deformed to the point it was garbage. Would be pretty unhappy with that.

Re: Anti-walk pins
This is a bit of a different problem, but thought it would bear repeating ..................
I had a guy bring me a lower that was having 'issues' with the gun 'locking up' sometimes and the trigger pin seemed to be 'walking' on him ... When I peered down inside it, I couldn't see the hammer spring 'legs' ... and after putting a light on the subject, found that someone had installed the hammer first, then the trigger (if that can actually be done ...) and the spring legs were UNDER the trigger pin and not 'locking' the trigger pin in place. (Maybe he just stuck the legs under the trigger pin)
Anyhoo ... I just pulled the hammer out and installed it correctly and the problem went away ...
Now, the OP's issue here is somewhat of a mystery because the 'J-hook' was said to have good tension ... makes a nice 'head scratcher', doesn't it? ...
