CZ model 527 carbine

Post by Geno » Thu Apr 24, 2014 10:03 am

I recently found and acquired a rifle that, to me at least, has been unobtainium. I had read an article by Paco Kelly about these little rifles. It is chambered in 7.62 X 39. It is made to CIP standards in Europe to be used with steel cased ammo safely. This means relatively inexpensive canned ammo may be used without concern. The rifle weighs less than 6 pounds, it comes with very good and usable iron sights. The rifle is feed by the use of a detachable 5 round steel magazine. This means a very compact convenient woods loafing gun with decent power and a good expectation of hitting your target. The rifle also has a single set trigger. To "set" you simply push the trigger forward and you will have a crisp trigger pull of about a pound. If not set, the trigger can be used in the conventional way with a slightly creepy 4 pound let off. Fit and finish are excellent. Walnut and beautiful blue steel. The only feature I do not care for is the CZ reversed safety lever. Forward is safe. Back is fire. I have 452 and 455 model 22 lr rifles that are the same. So I deal with it.
Shooting the 527 is pure joy. Very light recoil. Inexpensive ammo. I just bought 1000 rounds of Wolf WPA for $229.65 shipped to my door last week from Lucky Gunner. That is less than 22 mag and 17 hmr! The rifle is shorter than a 94 winchester but handles as nicely. So far impromptu shooting shows 50 yard groups of just over an inch.
I am really glad I found this little gem.

I have been wanting one in 233 for a while. I let one slip thru my fingers about 6 months ago.

Nice find glad to hear a good range report.

I love those little CZ carbines! They are like trying to catch smoke with your fingers, as far as availability, though.

I keep going back and forth on whether or not to get one in 223 or 7.62x39, sweet little rifles.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.
