If you haven't been to a KPDL match, you need to give it a go.
If the fact you might not know anyone is holding you back, look for the guy wearing this hat, and I'll be your "range buddy" for the day:

It's kinda like IDPA where it's mostly stock carry pistols, and concealed and such right? What are the basics on must haves and have nots, and what time? Not sure I can make yet, but would like to try.

Spectating only permitted? I've never been to any matches and would like to observe before I commit. I'd have no problem paying the fee just to get the education.

Re: KPDL Kentuckiana Practical Defense Leag Fun Match 8/27/2
Equipment guidelines are pretty relaxed. Basically gear you *could* carry. You'll see everything from M&P Shields in IWB holsters to full-size 1911s and Glock 34/35s in OWB Kydex. Anything that's IDPA legal will be perfectly fine. Some stages require concealment--some don't. You'll want at least two spare magazines.
No appendix, small of the back, or pocket carry.
No optics, "race guns," dropped/offset holsters, or the like are permitted at regular matches, but at "fun matches" (like the one on the 27th) you can pretty much shoot any handgun in any configuration you like.
No maximum magazine capacity, but you must *start* a stage with a standard capacity magazine. So if you are shooting a Glock 19 you'd have to start the stage with a 15 round magazine, but you can use Glock 17 mags (or even 33-rounders) for your reloads.
Most matches require 60 rounds, plus or minus 10 or so; I've *never* shot more than 90 at a match. If you bring two boxes of ammo you'll be fine.
Folks are welcome to come and observe, but you must wear eye/ear protection. With that said, if you don't bring a gun with you you'll wish you had. The club is *very* new shooter friendly. So long as you don't point your gun at anybody no one will give you a hard time. Do *not* worry about not being "good enough" to shoot. When I shot my first match there five or six years ago I think I finished second to last...but I had a *great* time and was hooked.
Match start time is 9:30 sharp. New shooters will want to be there around 8:30 for the required new shooter brief. You must sign in (and pay the Knob Creek range fee) inside before walking down to the KPDL range. Match fee is $10, which you'll pay when you fill out your score card down at the KPDL range.
If you *don't* have a good time, come find me and I'll refund your match fee.

Based on the club's Facebook page, it looks like tomorrow may be a higher round count than normal. Might want to bring an extra box of ammo, just in case.

Made it and had a blast! Even if I did sweat my nuts off and nearly get packed off by mosquitos. I guess at least I can say, at least one of Satan's little gifts LOVE me!
I saw Frailer but didn't get a chance to bs with him. I recognized the hat...haha Every time we were near, he looked to be on a mission. Thanks to the new guy for posting and Frailer for all the info! I hope to make more...

Re: KPDL Kentuckiana Practical Defense Leag Fun Match 8/27/2
Glad you had a good time. I was ROing today, and there were some things going on behind the scenes, so I was moving around a bit.
Regular matches are the 2nd Saturday of each month (except when this interferes with the Machine Gun Shoots, when it is postponed a week), and "fun matches" are on the 4th Saturday. We recently moved our start time to 9:30 to avoid the heat; presumably we'll go back to our original 10:30 time when it starts to cool off.
I hope more KACsters will give it a go. I'll continue to wear the ugly hat.

When the studying is over (10/31) I will have to check it out
