Belts, not all are created equal

Post by Toecutter1978 » Thu Mar 31, 2016 7:10 pm

So I'm faced with a dilemma. I need a replacement belt for my rock solid, go everywhere, handle every situation with ease Galco large reinforced instructors belt. I could just order a new one, I need a size smaller, but decided to see what the crowd is rocking. I'm not into leather belts. Price point is a kicker, if it's way over the $60 of the Galco, I can't justify the extra cost. I'd rather hear some real experience reviews from somebody from here that actually owns and uses the gear than some Internet tard that is just being tacool. Well not as tacool as me.

Couple years ago I picked up a 5.11 operator belt at gander mountain for about 40.00 bucks-belt has stayed firm and is easy to adjust because it has velcro fastener-I carry a bama kydex holster and no play or sloppiness yet-very comfortable and light

My two heavy duty belts are the Galco you have and an Ares Aegis. They're both great.

You're not going to beat Galco for the price on leather. If you want something else, this is the guy zachsgunbelts.com

For a more traditional look, try the Daltech Biobelt.

I got one of the seconds/blemish leather belts from crossbreed, it has velcro all the way around the inside surface and is stiff as can be. Cost was about fifty. Check out their seconds website, mine said good condition and I thought it was new.

I can load up my Galco, the wilderness looks very interesting. Which model of the tac instructor do you have, the 3 stitch, 5 stitch, or the CSM version? They also come in two different buckle varieties, one larger than the other.

How rigid is it? Does it compress easily?

It's plenty rigid. Never had an issue with it compressing at all. Been wearing it for years carrying all manner of holsters and mag pouches on it.

Cool. I will give them a call tomorrow and see if they have my size in stock in the configuration I would like. I'm tired of dealing with baggy pants.

I have been wearing a wilderness tactical 5 stitch for about 5 years now every single day.

It's been great but finally starting to wear out, loosens up pretty easily and starting to fray where I carry my tape measure

Belts, not all are created equal

Anybody ran into any issues with that new type of cobra buckle setup? Like besides having to disassemble it to put install on your pants? I can also see some Ahole walking up and pushing both of the buttons and the buckle popping loose. I know I would do that, especially to somebody talking mad crap while loaded down. I think I'll pass on that shit bag belt style

I still stick with the old-school leather belt as made by The Belt Man. In fact, I'm waiting on them to come back from him cutting them down 15" after losing all this wieght.

Soe cobra rigid is perfect for me. Never had anyone push the buttons and someone would get hurt doing such. I don't hang with gus that reach towards my balls but that's just me. I have a leather 5.11 belt that has a rigid piece in it also and it doesn't compress whatsoever and actually can't be forced to fold over its so rigid but flexes around your waist and had a normal buckle. Had both belts for years and they show no sign of remotely needing replacement.

The only cobra belt I have is a grey ghost gear. It has Velcro that wold keep it from popping open if someone did that. I don't like having to take it apart to put it on though

I went and checked out what they had at openrange. All they had were Galco cobras and some leathers, The quality of the belts materiel is top notch. Like you said having to take the belt apart to put it on and off is a drag. That nearly killed it for me. Then the buckle does easily Deploy open, too easily with two fingers. This does not pass the ruggedness test in my eyes. I have pinched and pinned myself in everyday life just walking around, lifting things, I can see something heavy clipping that buckle, wham there it goes!

Fwiw I have never had it pinch me, or come open unless I purposely opened it. PS you don't have to remove the buckle per say to where it is possible to drop, it always stays buckled or it is connected to the other end of the belt. Not talking you into the type I have but merely clearing up the misinformation.

No I'm not referring to as the buckle pinching me. More as me interacting with the environment around me pinching myself on objects as I move around on a daily bases. I can only see a person getting themselves caught in the buckle if they are not paying attention and snapping it together.
