Need reputable class please

Post by Toecutter1978 » Mon Oct 28, 2013 3:37 pm

So sense I became a resident of KY, gave up my TX residence I also made my TX CHL invalid. I'm looking for a course that actually teaches the law. I'm in the Crestwood area in Oldham CO. Looking on line and through a phone book is not the same as a word of mouth endorsement. Thank you.

Get with ChopperDoc or DDGunslinger. RWI Tactical is a site sponsor that offers tactical firearms training courses, and ChopperDoc is the CCDW instructor associated with them.

Thank you very much! The process here in KY is really different than back on TX.

This is the state link. I thought it was stickied here somewhere. It will give you information about the process.

the class in ky is just a video, really basic test on the video, and then hitting a siloutette target 10/20 times at 7 yards slow fire

at least mine was

Even still Id take it with rwi on the off chance id get to shoot some steel plates or throw tomahawks after the class.

For reasons I shouldn't go into (the government is fucking retarded "sometimes"), I haven't taken the concealed carry class, and don't know all of the rules. I BELIEVE you have to follow the KY class and can not build to or detract from what they say you must teach. That said, I believe you can teach the state carry class and then 'seamlessly transition' into a separate private/independent firearms course. So, take the state test to get your license and appease the state, then immediately after take a second 'unaffiliated and independent' class to learn about proper firearms handling.

If the class is anything similar to the TX version, then it mainly deals with the legal aspect of unholstering and discharging your carry. The qual associated with the course is easy. As a new resident, but long time CHL holdie, practice and technique is key. I imagine like many on here that is not the only time you have ever fired and will ever.

The video is just them reading off all of the krs related to carry verbatim.

Oh yea...they have you demonstrate that you can field strip your pistol too. A lot of ppl who dont shoot at all use a revolver to get around taking an auto apart.

Watch videos, brief class on a few ways to carry, fundamentals, weapon qualification, break down and clean weapon and 25 question test... that's pretty it in a nut shell. I will state that should only be a small part of a much larger picture. Training is key, especially if you carry. RWI offers in depth pistol training, from the very basics to much more advanced concepts. Whether you seek training through us or others instructors. I highly encourage seeking as much training as possible. If you have any questions of me or what RWI Tactical offers, please feel free to pm myself or 325MOUTguru. Good luck in all your training endeavors and welcome to KAC.

I may be wrong (1st time for everything), but don't you have to be a KY resident for 6 months to be eligible for CCDW license?

I took my CCDW class back in '97. A few things have changed since then.

Me as well. My manual is dated 1996 and none of the data has changed except for the few pages with legal changes.
