Thank you for taking the time to let me check out the Kimber, great gun. It was good to meet and talk with you!

I had a Para Warthog. Had a lot of problem with the recoil springs. Contacted Para they said to replace them ever 300 to 500 rounds to ensure reliability. I ordered on then sold the gun.

The 3.5 inch guns that don't use the double recoil springs run a lot better.

I've carried my Colt New Agent daily for close to 3 years....and love it.

I quit keeping track, but I have put well over 2k rounds thru this gun ( I realize most wouldn't consider this a ton of rounds fired, but I trust it)....all types, ball, HP, personal defense, reloads, everything....and it's had minimal issues. As I recall I've had it jam twice. Once when I first got it and I was shooting some manufacture reloads and once a couple months ago when we shooting at the house...but I wasn't the one actually shooting it, so I blamed it on limp wristing :)

I'll see if I can find the detailed review I did one the Agent a while back.....I should update it actually, because I've shot it a lot more since then and basically abused it....and it's still ticking.....

I can't say that it is all around the best carry gun out there, but I can say it's MY favorite. There's tons of reason's that other guns would be better for the job, but the heart wants, what the heart wants and I like carrying a 1911.....And I will say that a compact is much easier to carry vs full size....esp if you carry IWB SOB like a do...I notice a huge difference when sitting....extra barrel on full size really gets in the way and makes it uncomfortable to sit.

Anyway......I would highly recommend the New Agent.....let me see if I can find that review.

I carry a Springfield Ultra Compact daily. I've tried all kinds of ammo and all have worked. Still would like to find some Speer Gold Dot short barrel for it though. Only downsides I see are limited to mag capacity. I've not had the safety release. Maybe its the Blackhawk CQC iwb holster I use. I dunno.

Dustin - Thanks, I read the Paras had spring issues.

Justshootit - Great write-up. Does your New Agent have the trench sights? If so how do you like them?

mtchbrain - Thank you, I will read on the Springfield.

After days of reading and looking at a few examples I am leaning towards the Kimber RCP / CDP II, Colt Defender / New Agent.
I have read good things about Springfield and STI.

+1 for the New Agent, and actually for Colt 3" 1911's. I've had 2 Defenders and 2 New Agents, currently carry a New Agent every day with Hydra-Shoks, I had to sell the others but I'll quit eating before I let this NA go!
I feeds, fires and eject everything including my very low power reloads with Trail Boss powder. 100% reliable. Colt seems to have perfected the 3 inch 1911.
I can't say the same for others, including Kimber and Springfield, from personal experience.

With factory Colt 7 round mags and one in the chamber, I have 8 rounds of .45acp.

The XDs is nice, light and thin but you have a 5 round mag. The 7 round extended mag for it is ridiculous-adds another 2 inches to the grip.

I went to buy the Kimber CDP II until I picked up the Kimber Ultra TLE II. It has one less round, but it's a bit shorter and a selling point on a CC gun, plus it has the safety on the left side. I also like the Crimson Trace grips.
I took it to the range and it worked flawlessly.
Here are some pictures:

Here is comparison to a Colt Rail gun.

I'm impressed with the build quality and range performance.

I looked at a CDP, I thought the TLE was a better set-up for CC, with the shorter grip, single side safety, a Crimson Trace grip and the biggest thing for me was stainless slide and aluminum frame. Kimber needs to make a Stainless slide version of the RCP II with and without a duty coat.

If so, which model, holster and short review of why you like it.

Thanks,
