Clintonville, Wisconsin Strange Booming Noise Continues: Other Unexplained Events In Small Towns [PHOTOS]

Since Sunday, Clintonville, Wi. heard and felt loud booming noises in the middle of the night, forcing residents to endure sleepless nights. This unexplained occurrence has captured the nation's attention and left residents concerned.

Residents of Clintonville, which is located approximately 40 miles west of Green Bay, have been complaining about unexplained booming noises. There are indications from witnesses that the booming is spreading to areas south and west of the original locations, reported WTAQ.

Sunday night, Clintonville police started receiving reports regarding explosions or explosion like sounds. They reportedly were receiving 50 to 60 calls at one time. Now, it has been about four days of constant booms and sleepless nights.

Residents don't know what to make of it.

"My husband thought it was cool, but I don't think so," said Jolene Van Beek, who awoke Sunday to a loud boom that shook her house, reported the Christian Science Monitor. "This is not a joke I don't know what it is, but I just want it to stop."

The continuing noise prompted Van Beek to take her three children to her father's home, about 10 minutes away, so they can get an undisturbed sleep.

"[It] almost felt like a heavy-duty thunderstorm," said Al Miller, according to Fox, as another resident had said that it "sounded like a bomb had gone off."

Clintonville City Administrator Lisa Kuss reportedly met with civil engineers and geologists on Tuesday morning. Officials are checking the water system to see if there are any problems. Officials are also checking gas lines, sewers and water pressure systems, but they have yet to find a source of the loud noises.

Wednesday night, Clintonville hosted a public meeting at a local high school to update residents on the situation. Kuss assured residents that the town and competent authorities are doing everything they can to find the cause of the problem.

"People in the area are certainly frustrated," Kuss said, according to the Christian Science Monitor.

Authorities even set up audio and video equipment overnight. However, they did not find any evidence of shaking or booming on Wednesday night.

"This is an issue," said resident Sharaon Binger at the public meeting, demanding answers from officials. "There is something else going on."

She said that the booms and shakes have left cracks in her basement walls and floors. The insurance company will not pay for them until the mystery is solved.

Kuss believes the noises are coming from underground, reported the AP, and the next plan is to check well pumps to make sure they are operating properly.

Some scientists agree with her.

Cliff Thurber is a geophysics professor. According to Fox, he reportedly believes that the odd booms not look like what normally happens when you have earthquakes occurring."

"The ground is shaking in an unusual way," said Thurber.

City leaders said there were no mining explosions or explosive companies in the area. The military said they were not conducting any type of weapons testing or any operation that would cause a booming sound, reported WGBA-TV.

While authorities work to solve the mystery, check out other unexplained events in small towns across America.

The strange sounds heard over three straight nights in Clintonville, Wisconsin, have now been reported 70 miles to the south in Montello. What are they?

Also, officials in Montello are reporting an unidentifiable slimy sludge has invaded the waste water system, never seen before. Can it have something to do with the weird booming noises residents of both towns are reporting?

In Clintonville this evening, a town meeting is being held with city officials doing their best to answer questions and allay fears.

But, they admit, so far they have no explanation for the mysterious, thunderous booms shaking the ground in both far-flung towns.

Residents are bracing for another sleepless night, even for those not in the affected areas, because of the unease and fear this phenomenon is causing.

Why is it happening only at night? Are aliens starting to work the night shift?

Some believe it indicates the strange sounds are a result of some human activity which someone is trying to shield from the public eye. Possibly for illegal reasons?

It wouldn't be the first time that greedy, uncaring people put others, and the environment, at risk purely for personal gain. Unfortunately, it's a story which has repeated itself over and over.

At least in some scenarios, aliens who visit the Earth in a UFO have benevolent reasons for disrupting the lives of unsuspecting citizens.

If it's found that a group of people is doing something harmful, without thought to serious consequences, sleepy towns in Wisconsin, like Clintonville and Montello may wake from peaceful slumber in a mighty nasty mood.

Stay tuned.

Clintonville - The city where strange, noisy booms have awakened residents the past few nights is hiring an engineering firm to try to figure out the source of the sounds and tremors.

For a third straight evening, residents heard loud bangs at night and early morning in this Waupaca County community. So far, officials and experts haven't been able to figure out the source.

City Administrator Lisa Kuss said Wednesday afternoon that the Waukesha engineering firm of Ruekert & Mielke has been hired to install four ground monitors - at a cost of around $1,000 - to figure out if there's an epicenter to the noises that seem to be coming from the ground. The four monitors will be set up in a triangular pattern with one monitor in the middle and will be installed either late Thursday or early Friday.

The city is also contacting the U.S. Geographical Survey to research whether there's a fault line running underneath the community of 4,600.

Shaking and booming were heard again in a neighborhood on the northeast of Clintonville at 8 p.m. Tuesday and 5 and 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to calls received by police. Some also heard noises around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Audio and video equipment set up to capture the sounds and tremors so far have not recorded anything, said Kuss. But hundreds of residents have reported the loud booms and shaking under their feet which began around 2 a.m. Monday.

There have been no injuries or damage reported. But quite a few people have lost sleep because the booming and shaking usually comes late at night.

Some are treating the inconvenience with humor. On the outskirts of town the Calvary Apostolic Church changed the words on the front of the church's sign - "God is shaking our city. Let's Have (a) Revival!"

A town meeting will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Clintonville High School.
