Pictures of Otter Creek Range
Went to Otter Creek Range today and check it out. It cost $10 to shoot or a yearly pass was $100. That was according to the guy working the main gate to the park. The Range is at another entrance and I didn't notice any signs with a posted cost. One sign said to check in to the main gate but that was it and easy to miss.
And here is the Archery Range

Geeze...
Don't think I would like shooting though tubes.
Glad I can always go out into the woods or onto an reclaimed strip job around here.

It sucks, but it's decent for sighting in long guns. If you bring an ar/ak/etc, make sure you have a short mag for it. Mags + gun + optics won't fit in the tube.

Supposed to be for safety. No where for the bullet to go but into the berm at the end of the range if you're using it as designed.Jff24Gordn wrote:Whats the deal with the tubes?

Dare ya to fire off a 50bmg with a muzzle brake in one of those tubes.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

That does pose an interesting idea of how the muzzlebrake would react from inside the tube.WLJ wrote:Dare ya to fire off a 50bmg with a muzzle brake in one of those tubes.

Re: Pictures of Otter Creek Range
Never been, glad they reopened the park up. If you have a ding dong that's not safe with firearms, those tubes won't help him be any safer. The loading and sweeping the line is what I would be more concerned about.
Re: Pictures of Otter Creek Range
With a muzzle brake I would never use those tubes... Not even in .223 Rem. During our Dynamic Service Rifle runs we sometimes have a stage with an oil drum from which the top and bottom have been cut out. After 2 or 3 rounds you're almost suffecating if you try to get to far in with your head. These tubes look to be smaller in diameter.

Re: Pictures of Otter Creek Range
I didn't shoot yesterday because I was out at the park for a picnic with the fam, but it looked to me like there was plenty of room to shoot with the rifle on the bench and not all down in the tube. No need for short mags or any of that. I plan to shoot there next weekend so ill let you know. I'm sure it will be loud and a pita but its 10 min from my house and I have some scopes I need to check out

Re: Pictures of Otter Creek Range
i see the logic behind the tubes, but don't agree with them. its the lazy way out of making the range safe. instead of posting rules that make sense and making sure they are followed, they build these tubes. if someone is found to be unsafe they should be punished, not the rest of us. if i was at the range and it was empty i should be allowed to practice my way. whether its shooting on the move or shooting from any other variation. this also to me eleminates jobs. they could hire a few folks to work the range and most of us wouldn't mind paying to support someone who works there. to me this is like the u-scan at your local shopping stores. them damn machines are replacements that folks should have. the eleminate jobs and i refuse to use them. i'll wait in line and support the cashier. i feel that if folks use the uscan more and more we are saying its okay to take away more jobs and never bring them back.

Re: Pictures of Otter Creek Range
Rule 6 says target shooting only through tubes. Nowhere does it say no pracical shooting. It doesn't specificly prohibit shooting outside of tubes. There is no range master. Its ran by who is shooting and odd are as of right now you will be alone when you get there. Just sayin. The rules are vague enough that I'd risk some official showing up and give me a warning. Now if other people are there then its a diff story.

I know its ran by fish and wildlife. Those are some sneaky dudes. I wouldn't be suprised if they try and catch people out there screwing around.
