Airsoft adventure

So the kiddo decided he wants to give airsoft a try. He's already pretty good with handling my firearms and has competed in pistol matches. Holy hell I never knew this sport was so expensive! I can straight up build a full cal AR for some of the prices of the airsoft models.

Anyone here with any experience? Suggestions and advice needed. Also looking for some solid gear if anyone has some for sale. Thanks guys.
