Gun Jesus has an out of battery discharge

Post by WLJ » Mon Apr 23, 2018 11:42 am

But he has risen!

Be safe

There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

WTF?
ARs were brought up but as an example of how safe properly designed modern guns are and it was pretty clear by that talk it was not an AR that had the out of battery that hurt Ian. The ARs they did bring up as blowing had overcharged rounds and the talk was how well the guns handled those events in directing the energy away from the shooter. Don't recall if they actually state what the gun that had the out of battery was that hurt Ian. Considering all the old stuff Ian messes with for his videos it could have been anything.

If you watch enough Forgotten weapons and InRange videos you learn that both Ian and Karl think ARs are the best thing going.
Ian shots all kinds of old guns in his videos, some of them with IMHO questionable safety, so it could have been anything. But I never got the impression it was an AR, rather the opposite.

InRange TV
June 20, 2017 ·

Ian's injury as discussed in the Dangerous Things are Dangerous video had NOTHING TO DO with a rifle exploding or an AR15 variant, including our WWSD project.

It was an out of battery detonation, not in an AR15, not in a WWSD rifle.

~Karl
"NOTHING TO DO with a rifle exploding" has people speculating it was a handgun or even one of the anti-tank guns he's been shooting.
Of course "NOTHING TO DO with a rifle exploding" could also mean the rifle itself did not explode.

Jerry Overfelt Probably a result of the lack of information about the incident.

Knowing the make of the rifle and InRange's educated guess to the cause of malfunction could minimize the discussions.

InRange TV Jerry Overfelt That's fine, maybe more people will watch it and grab a clue about getting some medical training. ~Karl

I did not watch it all the way and never even looked at the comments.

Anti-tank rifles are a different lock up and not standard rifle design.
In 30 plus years I have never seen first hand a out of battery denotation.
Seen plenty of over pressure actions either reload , wrong caliber and factory overloads but they all have been in locked firing position. In handgun or long gun.

AR-180 or American-180?
AR-180 was the semi-auto version of the AR-18
There was a AR-180B which had a poly lower

With the round magazine on top, Why didn't they call it 360 ? Doesn't it go almost completely around? It looks like an old air breather with filter in it that goes on top of a carburetor

it was the 180 because the magazine nominally held 180 rounds (3 rows of 60 rounds)...even though it really didn’t because of the dummy first round/follower.

To be truthful, I don’t recall it was 31 years ago.
