A warning about a possible member in your area: Terry Tapley

Long story short I took him for a man of his word. Shipped a firearm to a local FFL without the full shipping balance being paid. After I provided him with a breakdown of the actual shipping costs as well as scans of the UPS shipment receipt and transaction receipt he stopped replying to my emails. After finally being pressured he played the "Oh I never got those" game. Took him a week to finally pick the gun up from the FFL.

He finally sends me part of the shipping charges stating he will not pay the full amount because he had to buy a "receiver" (magazine) Nowhere in my ad does it say magazines of any kind are included. This is his exact wording on that: "Also, the gun did not have a receiver with it. Every gun has to have the receiver in order to load the bullets. It will cost me $20 plus tax ($21.20) to purchase a receiver. I have deducted $21.20 from the remains balance of the ridiculous shipping charge (nobody believes it would cost over $80 to ship this gun and the Pawn Shop said they have never seen shipping cost more than $35...........most guns on Gun Broker are $30 for shipping). The remaining balance of the shipping charges according to you were $53.69 minus $21.20 for the cost to purchase the magazine leaves the balance $32.49. I have sent money to your PayPal account same as before. Do not bother or waste your time responding to this because I will no longer see anything you send!"

I've got the full email chain, as well as receipts for shipping still.

Just be warned he is a liar.

I don’t know Terry Tapley, but how does it cost $80 to ship a gun to a FFL?

If you send it as an individual legally you will spend that much.

Has to go overnight if you use UPS.

Only has to be overnighted if it's a handgun.

This was a rifle with a scope.

12x12x36 box weighing 10.85 pounds plus insurance. From 97477 to 40744 Punch that in to UPS with $800.00 insurance and signature confirmation.

That's dropping it off at an actual UPS hub and providing my own packing materials/box which I did not include in the shipping costs.

It's not like I was trying to cheat someone on shipping. I told him shipping would be 50-60 knowing I would have to cover a little more on my end which I was fine with. He doesn't respond, instead he sends payment with only $30.00 for shipping because that's what it costs and then tells me IF it's anything more he would cover the rest. This is where I messed up and took him for a man of his word. In hindsight I should have just refunded the payment and moved on to the next buyer but I wanted to honor the deal as he was the first to send a serious inquiry.

My question, as well. Is this person an actual member on KAC? Or, is the association just that the stuff was sent to a guy in Kentucky and the forum has Kentucky in the name? The name isn’t a familiar one to me.
