Car Trouble - 98 Camry

Post by Rem700 » Tue May 23, 2017 12:31 pm

98 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder auto.

When coming to a stop or at a stop light the car wil randomly stall out. Literally like a turned the key off, no RMP jumps or anything just off.....

So after some research i have come up with a few possibilities,

- EGR Valve - i played with it last night and manually opening it during idel causes the same type of stall and the same difficulty getting it started again (usually have to crank it for 10 seconds or so where normally it fires right up).

- ECT Sensor - just saw some people describing the same problem online and said this fixed it. Seems it going bad can cause the engine to read cold at times and so it dumps more fuel in to warm it up.

- distributor or plugs and wires going out (pretty easy to test and clean and i will)

- dirty throttle body (should be easy enough to inspect and clean and i will)

Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.

Code pulled at big o in Lagrange. ECT sensor acquired from Johnny. Installing once the engine cools.

Sensor swapped. Took about 10 mins. Drove it for a few miles and no stalling. We will see how tomorrow goes.

Yes... They can turn sensors and switches on and off. Turn injectors on and off. Not much a $8-10k scanner can't do...haha
