Toecutter's Senior Capstone project

This is going out to the surrounding Louisville area. First does anybody have a high-end digital camera laying around that is collecting dust? Either I may borrow, have, or purchase on the cheap?

Second, this has to do with my Senior Capstone project. A Capstone project has to have a tangible substance that can benefit society.

What I want to do is bring to life in photos is the essence of what life is like for Veterans after they are home. After all the hand shakes and smiles. Life that can be captured in that one instance and archived.

I am looking for willing participants that I may come around ever so often and photograph. The details will be worked out between the individual and myself.

This is an opportunity to share your story with me, and the world. Please think about it.

As we were discussing possible Capstone Projects in our committee meeting today. The notion of part of the public not truly viewing Veterans as people was brought up. The misconception that the men and women that served do not have lives after their service. They just fade away to obscurity. Sometimes they might get viewed upon on certain holidays. Wheeled out as if we might be some foreign object, mystifing some and respected by others. Then there is that group of people that just cannot understand that Veterans are people. They have hopes as they do. Families, dreams, sadness, laughter, all ranges of life. All socioeconomic statuses.

What I to do is document a number of Veterans lives. Photograph their life over a period of time. This I will compile into a catalog. Then turned into my department head for supliment to help further the public understanding that we, Veterans are people. We have faces.
This will be treated with the utmost respect at every turn.

If you are a Veteran, please consider allowing me the privilege of documenting your story.

pawnshops seems to have nikon d3200 which is old model, will do what you want. would loan you my canon but I use it regularly for ebay. They overprice them, just check ebay and offer lower. Good Luck, I did something similar in high school with VN vet interviews (no pics).

well honestly, some may have up to 50 cameras and they aren't the highest knowledgeable people about cameras. Its like calling walmart and asking the twist rate on an AR they have in stock.

True, true. I know they will not know the functions of their inventory, but they should at least know what they have in stock.

If I am going to have to buy a camera, I have a rough ballpark of what I want.

If possible, between a Nikon d3300- d3500.

I was given some an old Pentax lense, so if I can find a model K50 or K70 that would be nice.

These are all considered entry level cameras, but are still pricy new to my modest budget. Throw in the extras you also need, this is going to get up there quick. However, this project will hopefully have more value.

Well the d3300 is a newer model, I got my daughter one last year for her birthday and it was 400 or so. My wife wanted a camera a couple Christmases ago to move into her potential as a photographer ....hahahahaha. It cost me over 1000 for the D7100 model. Sits in a bag...

She got me my Canon a number of years earlier...nowhere near as good as their cameras which they never use.

I have seen the d3100 or 3200 in shops in Lexington but they price them for 3-400 but of course pawn shops haggle. I have found the 3200 on ebay for between 100 to 200 depending on what it comes with. With stupid ebay protection for the buyer, you can look at them and buy one from someone who sells a lot on there and if it doesn't work right when you get it, paypal and ebay will get your money back.

I am still looking for people willing to be participants. Every Veteran has a story. Every Veteran has proven that there is Life after service.

Honestly you can't go wrong with that model. It's more than capable. I just now saw your post and was going to offer up my d5500 to borrow. Glad you sorted it out though.
