Did you buy gas? Some of the stations do that and then take it back off when they charge you what you actually spent on gas. Its their shady way of preventing someone from using a card that doesnt have enough in tge account to cover the gas.

Yep- that's it. Chase said they get calls every day because of Pilot. He said most gas stations do a one dollar pre authorization but Pilot is weird.

Does the "pre authorization" work the same with credit and debit? I gas up there quite often and don't recall that ever happening to me.

According to the above article it's only occurs with credit

I get it with credit and debit. But really only use credit these days. It's only tbe pending charge though so it never posts to your account.

Kroger was doing it with both and I think they must have just gone to credit now. I haven't seen it on my debit card but i stopped using them when they started that crap.

I stopped using a debit card period. If something goes wrong it takes way too long for the bank to give money back. Switched everything to AMEX and have had no issues. Just pay it off each month. No transactions in bank account other than bill payments and CC payment.

That one is a main stop for me. Never had a problem but others have been taken to the cleaners at that station.
