Deer!

Post by Rem700 » Fri Nov 04, 2016 11:40 pm

Opening day a week from tomorrow for modern gun! Who's going? Also any bow hunters here? Post some pics of your harvest this year! I am trying to go opening day but may have to wait till the following weekend. I am also going to try and get into bow hunting by next season. Neighbor is big into bow so I am going to see if I can go with him.

I'll be hunting this year with a V6. Usually take them with a V8 but the V6 I think can do the trick just fine.

For the past week and a half I have been trying out lots of different feed, attractants, calls and scents.
Out of the dozens of things I tried I can honestly say the "Ever Calm" deer herd scent is the single best scent blocker/ cover up out there.
The spray on scent killers are a waste of money. I have said that for the past few years.
The "Ever Calm" is scented with actual scents from a "calm" deer herd. It is in a stick deodorant style container and you just rub it in on the soles of your boots. It smells a lot like the deer piss scents and is nasty but it really covers up your human scent.
After using this the entire week, I have witnessed first hand, deer sniffing my walking path and following my steps directly to my blind. Both bucks and does sniffing my path.
There is not a whole lot out there in the world of Witches Brew of hunting products that actually work but this stuff is a Home Run.
Just passing it on to the KAC hunting family. Its expensive, but it works.

Couldn't give less of a damn about big antlers. I'm with SoL, hoping for at least two younger does.

It's all snake oil to me too, but I might have to give that a shot since I predominantly hunt on foot

Keep in mind there has only been one infected deer identified in Indiana, which is separated from us by a pretty big river. Just a precaution in a limited area, but something it wouldn't hurt to be aware of.

So it's looking like my hunting area may be unavailable to me this weekend. I'm looking at going down to taylorsville lake WMA. Anybody have any experience? Good, bad, crowded?
