First overnight scout camp

Post by Rescue9 » Sat Sep 27, 2014 3:37 pm

My son has only been in scouts for a bit under a month and already we're going camping. He's so excited..... But then again, I'm probably just excited. Well see if he enjoys the outdoors as much as I do.

What an awesome time. My son had such a wonderful time that he wanted me to leave him and mom there this morning and leave without them (I had to report to work). I guess he thought they would just walk home carrying the gear. He earned 2 belt loops played a lot of games, did a skit, and tuckered himself plum out by around 9:30. He only complained once about lights-out being at 10:30 while we were walking back to the tent, his eyes kept creeping shut the whole walk mind you.

I think I'm going to get Drafted for Den Leader. We've had 3 meetings now and the Den Leader hasn't been able to attend any of them. No worries though... the more I can mold him to love the outdoors, the sooner he'll want to go on the week long trips I take: Grand Canyon, RMNP, Katahdin, etc.

Mom though.... well, let's just say that I was strongly instructed that I will definitely be purchasing a full size air mattress or else.

That is just awesome. Keep him out there man, they love it.

My oldest and I went to the 4H shoot this year to compete in 22 sport rifle and he came really close to placing. This was our first year and we joined the team half season. Our county just started this year so we were all new. We've been camping for years and this year both the 13 and 10 year old started squirrel hunting. We've been out a couple times. The youngest one makes it hard to get any squirrels.

I was a scout and wanted the boys to be but they were both in Tae Kwon Do. My oldest tests for his decided black belt tonight.

Good on you man. Times like these are the ones you'll likely be most proud of someday. In today's world you can't spend too much time bonding with them while the window for doing so is open.

That's great!! If you have any questions about the trail, ask. I've been a BoyScout assistant ScoutMaster for a while now. It's been a few years sense I was a CubScout leader, but still remember plenty.
