Re: Pacific Rim
Watched it last night on Blu-Ray, it was ok. The special effects and CGI were cool, but the story line was kinda "blah". Charlie Hunnam or whatever that dudes name is from SOA did alright, the little Chinese girl was kinda annoying though. Overall, its worth checking out and was entertaining.

Re: Pacific Rim
Started watching it lastnight. It was ok. I'll finish it tonight. Plot is kinda stupid IMO. Seems all they did was build giant rocket launchers/guns that can punch the monsters before shooting them.

Re: Pacific Rim
Seems just like Battleship, lots of eye candy, no story. Either they make movies with no plot or character development at all or they take a well known classic tale and turn into some preposterous drug induced fever dream (ie: Snow White last year or Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, or the upcoming Frankenstein treatment that bears almost no recognizable relevance to the original story).
What they did to Ender's Game is unforgivable, while they did manage to get the basic gist of the story told, they truncated it badly and completely eliminated the entire secondary plot-line. It's almost as bad as the treatment they gave Robert A. Heinlein's Starship Troopers, not only did they butcher the story to near unrecognizable levels, but they then started making sequels that made no sense, what so ever!
I don't expect much from Hollywierd, and boy do they ever not deliver, even when they try to recycle what were great movies, simply because they lack any imagination or creative thought ability! And it seems to only be getting worse.
For what it costs to go to the movies, even matinees, my money will stay in my pocket. I can wait until it comes on TV, if I want to even bother seeing something, any more. I was severely pissed that I spent $18 to see Ender's Game, but I loved the book, and had hoped they wouldn't butcher it too badly.
I was wrong.

Re: Pacific Rim
Has there ever been a movie that was as good as the printed text that is was based on? I loved Eragon when I first saw it. Then I read the book. After that the movie SUCKED. They cut out or modified so much of the story that they made it impossible to even make a sequel based on the next book.
But I agree, Battleship and Pac Rim are both visual feats without a lot of substance.

Re: Pacific Rim
I don't get much opportunity to read novels so it doesn't spoil it for me. I did read some of the Harry Potter stuff and took it for what it was worth. Just a shorter, different perspective on the tale. Quit expecting hollywood to translate stuff well. I mean who would have suspected Superman of knocking up Lois and then leaving Earth for 5 years. He was never that way in the comics .

Re: Pacific Rim
well gee whiz. I just thought I was watching a good movie for, you know, 'entertainment' and stuff. Giant robots fighting giant sea monster aliens, but crap, I guess I wasted my 2 hours.

Lol...I still liked the movie. It was probably the best visual effects movie of the year.

Re: Pacific Rim
Holy crap I watched this last night and it is a stinking pile of dog crap! Seriously this movie was terrible. Very good cg but terrible everything else. The camera was very jumpy when they fought to the point that you couldn't see what was going on. Just my opinion and not arguing with your reviews but I hated it.

Re: Pacific Rim
At least there weren't any jamming AK's
Jittery camera movements seem to be the new thing in action movies..I'm not really a fan of it either. I guess they are trying to make it seem like its a real camera following the action and not just a complete computer animation

Re: Pacific Rim
Kind of reminded me of Robot Jox from the early 90's. When I was you get that movie had me making my own robot armor out of cardboard and battling friends. Good times.
