Pictures of my little dining room / bar project

Post by mtmetzger » Mon Mar 26, 2012 2:26 pm

I built this thing a couple years ago and figured I would share the pics with you guys. I had an ongoing thread on a different board while I was building it, so this is a copy / paste of that. Enjoy!

Picked up some cabinet grade oak plywood and some other things and got started cutting...

Granite Top: (cut with a diamond tip grinder blade)

Front trim: (oak handrail.. LOL)

Staining:

Polyurethane: (1st coat)

Building cabinet doors: ( I routed out the trim myself :) ... and matched the grain on the doors to the rest of the cabinet)

Made the drawers:

Just got done with the first coat of polyurethane on the pieces I stained last night and stained some trim.

I finished most of the base last night. Got it screwed to the wall and trimmed out. Mounted up the doors and drawers, Glued the granite down and put the front trim on. I still need to cut and install the backsplash.

Once I get the backsplash done, I'll probably go ahead and knock out the floor then build the top part. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do up there...

After I finished it all with floating glass shelves, backsplash and all

Thanks all. I have really been enjoying it and so does everyone else when they come over. Only problem with it is keeping it stocked! LOL

Yes it's Bruce from Home Depot. I got a pretty good deal on it because a manager walked by as I was moving some rough looking boxes out of the way so I could get the nicer ones. He said "I'll give you those (rough ones) for half price." I picked up an extra box to account for any damaged planks and still saved a good amount of $ on it.

wow! -you ever attach/install a wooden stairway handrail to a volute? -given your carpentry skills I'm betting you know what a volute is- if not- the 'spiraly thingy at the bottom step that begins the handrail...

LOL I actually have never heard of it... And I am no professional by any means. Feel free to send me a picture of what you are trying to do and I'll try to assist. If it's what I think it is, you may want a peg of some sort under it for stability, maybe some liquid nails and toenail it in.

I am not much for drinking so a bar is not what I would need.

Thanks. It's actually a rubber bar mat that catches any spillage while pouring drinks. At the end of the night you take it up, pour whatever is in it into a shot glass and make the most drunk person take the bar mat shot LOL.
