Has Obama is issued an apology yet?
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

One of my treasured possessions is a photo of the original flag and the men who raised it, autographed by one of them.

Most people forget that the famous photo and statue are of the second raising. Ironically, they took down the first flag to preserve it, and no one remembers that one, they only remember the famous photo of the second raising.

Thanks for pointing out this important anniversary, and thanks to all who have served and are serving.

Your efforts make us all possible.

It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters. - Daniel Webster

These soldiers were extraordinary--if the ones whom were killed saw what has happened to this country they would be disappointed

Ooh rah, Marines. (And one Corpsman, too) My cover is off.

Where is the contemporary iconography of war today that matches the kind of impact this (these) photos had? Not to get maudlin about it, but these images are lost in today's thousand stories a second culture of instant information. This? This moment was special. Not just for the Corps, not just for US Forces, but for the Nation, and ultimately for the whole world.

And I hope we never forget it.

For if ever thou hadst experience thereof, thou wouldest counsel us to fight for it not with spears only but with axes.' Thus the Spartans answered Hydarnes." - Herodotus

Good point--never see positive pics or stories of our fighting men/woman. Coming to think about it--a rare award occasionally but other than that--never
