Re: If I Only had one handgun.... Glock or what?
For me, if I could only have one pistol, gotta be the 1911.
It's classic, it's timeless, it's a long proven battle side arm regardless of how old the tech is in it. And besides, I shoot it better than any other handgun I have ever shot.

.45 >> 9mm
lol..my XDm has 19+1, but I'd still pick the 1911 if I could only have one

Fnp 9 because of double single, 16+1, 9mm to keep costs down and fits like a glove.

My XD45 is easier for me to shoot than any other pistol I've shot. I have large hands. No other pistol was ever comfortable. Admittedly, my experience with pistols isn't much.

If it's only one Glock, hands down.
Few parts, I.E. less to go wrong, light, tested and proven by not only myself but the rest of the world as well.
I LOVE 1911s but they can be prom queens, Glocks are truck stop hookers.
Treat them like shit and they'll still do their job.

Ruger Blackhawk Convertible 45 colt / 45 acp. I load them from rompin' stompin' down to cat farts. Extremely versatile, reliable and accurate. Something about big chunks of lead at moderate velocity (1000 fps) does just about all I want from a handgun. However, my EDC is a Glock 29. Much of the same can be said of the 10mm.

M&P9. Glocks are fine guns, 1911's are awesome, but I love my M&P and it loves me.

Re: If I Only had one handgun.... Glock or what?
I would have to say my M&P .40, I like the 1911's but ammo capacity is too low for a battle situation! but they are classic, and the design has proven to be loyal for over a hundred years!

I could not have said that better, so I won't try.
+1. I'll take the hard working lot lizard if I can only have one.

Re: If I Only had one handgun.... Glock or what?
I haven't found any task that a G19 isn't up to. Some do it a little easier here or there, but overall the G19 is an outstanding compromise. Big enough for 'heavy' shooting (matches, training, duty) and small enough to CC. I've got pretty big paws and prefer just a touch more grip, so my G34/17 still sees a lot of use, but that's nothing against the G19.
Plus you can do all your own work on a Glock, eeeeasily. You can replace any part, change springs, perform trigger jobs. Parts are extremely common and easy to get your hands on.
They work well in most environments (hot, cold, seaside). Very few controls to have to fiddle with. Easy to train others on. No rusting.
What's not to love?

Re: If I Only had one handgun.... Glock or what?
Only pistol that passed the independent NATO torture tests that is available to the public, CZ P-01 (Which I own )
The pistol must be 100% reliable in extreme conditions, the following is a list of some of the minimum requirements.
Must be able to complete the following without failure:
4000 dry firings
3000 De-cockings
Operator level disassembly 1350 times with out ware or damage to components.
Complete disassembly 150 times, this is all the way down, pins, springs etc.
100% interchangability, any number of pistols randomly selected, disassembled, parts mixed and reassembled with no failures of any kind including loss of accuracy.
Safety requirements:
Drop test
1.5 meter (4.9”) drop test, this is done 54 times with the pistol loaded (blank) and the hammer cocked. Dropping the pistol on the butt, the muzzle, back of the slide, sides of the gun, top of the slide, in essence, any angle that you could drop the gun from. This is done on concrete and 0 failures are allowed! A failure is the gun firing.
3meter drop (9.8”) 5 times with the pistol loaded (blank) and the hammer cocked, This is done on concrete and 0 failures are allowed! A failure is the gun firing.
After these tests are complete the gun must fire without service.
The factory contracted an independent lab to do additional testing on guns that previously passed the drop tests. These pistol were dropped an additional 352 times without failure.
The pistol must also complete an environmental conditions test:
This means cold, heat, dust/sand and mud.
The pistol must fire after being frozen for 24 hours at –35C (-36F).
The pistol must fire after being heated for 24 hours at 70C (126F)
The pistol must fire after being submerged in mud, sand and combinations including being stripped of oil then completing the sand and mud tests again.
Service life:
The service life requirement from the Czech police was 15,000 rounds of +P ammo!
The pistol will exceed 30,000 rounds with ball 9mm.
Reliability:
The reliability requirements for the P-01 pistol are 99.8%, that’s a .2% failure rate.
This equals 20 stoppages in 10,000 rounds or 500 “Mean Rounds Between Failure” (MRBF)
During testing, the average number of stoppages was only 7 per 15,000 rounds fired, this is a .05% failure rate, a MRBF rate of 2142 rounds! Over 4 time the minimum acceptable requirement.
The U.S. Army MRBF requirement is 495 rounds for 9mm pistols with 115 grain Ball ammunition.
Also Note that CZ used by more Governments, Militaries, Police and Security agencies than any other pistol in the world.
I would also think most would agree that the CZ is much more ergonomical than almost any other pistol out there. Closest thing to come to it imo is the Walther PPQ.

Re: If I Only had one handgun.... Glock or what?
I have both and I will and do grab my 1911 (BUT) I carried my glock 23 as a LEO and trusted with my life and the life of others as I did with my 1911. So both of these are GREAT GUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
